You mean somebody /in/ the films says otherwise. As I believe is mentioned, she sometimes lies.

Please let us all remember that the hereditary ruler of Alderaan was a part of the rebel alliance and a traitor BEFORE all of this happened. So yes, technically Alderaan did shoot first.

Don't forget about the WMD's that were on Alderaan.

Aldferaan got what it deserved, after all it was a member of the Axis of Evil.

I would have loved to have seen the Imperial assault. a squadron of ISDs versus the planetary defences TIEs vs whatever fighter they use on Alderaan all to stop the advancing Death Star....(I know we got most of that on Yavin but i still dont understand why the DS doesnt have screening cruisers)

According to the Death Star Technical Manual, the Death Star Mrk I had four Strike Class Cruisers docked inside the Battle Station for close support and 100 TIE Wings (600 squadrons, 7,200 fighters/bombers/scouts) as a fighter screen and picket line.
