Descent Second Edition - New Co-Op - Dark Elements

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

When was the last time they released one of the big/small box expansions? How long has 2ndEdition been out?

The amount of content for Descent is amazing. And still more to come. There is so much to do with all the components you get. I'm not a huge fan of the coop packs but they are fun to play solo and let you test out the different heroes from all the expansions. Its refreshing to see the crossover to the expansion LoW. I believe with all the launches of star wars series, the box expansions will be out later in the year. But for now I'm happy even with the campaign book being just a campaign book, it should give enough content to further enjoy the game. ok I will step down from my soapbox now. Just enjoy and use your imagination, how about a tournament of champions to see who the best hero is?

Small PoD adventure are nice, but really expensive (expecially outside USA). We definitely need a Co-Op box!!!!!!

I think that Imperial Assault as well as the Dockproblems play a major role in the kind of content FFG is releasing for Descent right now.

The Campaignbook is an attempt to release genuine new Descent content, without the need of taking up space in their factories that can be used for producing Imperial Assault games. This book should've been out for quite some time now, but it feels like it has been on the boat forever and maybe is another victim of the american dock problems.

So FFG steps in and announces an awesome H&M pack (extremely early) that comes out in Q4 2015 to keep the interest in Descent and releases this new co-op adventure (maybe even a bit earlier than planned) to circumvent the shipping problems (remember they are produced in-house).

I guess new boxed expansions will come out earliest at the end of the year or after at least one big box IA expansion hits the market or the IA demand dies down a little so they have more resources at their factories.

I am just pleased to start seeing some variety by requiring expansions other than the base game. This should allow for different maps, different monsters, etc.

I always said that FFG would eventually move away from the model of only requiring the base game. Imagine now, if you will, an ultimate co-op which utilizes all of the expansions to date. That would really be sweet.

I completely agree, its awesome they are starting to incorporate the expansions more. To have one that uses them all would be really sweet!

Can anyone show me where it says which Expansions are needed? I have read descriptions and can't find the info. It is important as I only have base set and like this idea, despite having only played 2 quests in 1 campaign (Lost First Blood , Won Fat Goblin , Both as OL). Love the game though!

Nice. No store sells these though, prolly have to order it online. I have not played co-op but it looks fun.

You probably won't see these in stores because they are Print On Demand products, not a manufactured product like the main Descent stuff is.

It does take a while, but on-line stores like CSI do end up selling these products.

"Dark Elements is now available through Fantasy Flight Games’ in-house manufacturing and at your local retailer ."
the shipping for POD stuff outside the US is often more than the cards itself.
plus FFG only does english (afaik), if you want localized versions you have to wait for store release.

Ah, good to know. Do they just order a batch of the POD stuff, or is it manufactured elsewhere? I'm just curious because POD stuff has a different "feel/texture" to the cards.

I'm guessing online stores that have it may just be bulk-ordering PODs and getting a discount, but I could be wrong :D

I'd have liked that some coop quests included in the campaign book...but i'm a dreamer so...

I have sent a message to the customer service to know if they were planning any big expansion box in the near future, I don't wait any answer to my request or not a precise one, but who knows ?

When I see what kind of expansion boxes DE1 had, I am dreaming a bit about the same quality and variety for our D2E. Because when you look on Ebay the price of those old boxes you are a bit amazed ^^

For example, this guy is selling his whole collection of Descent 1E : but the amount asked for it reaches nearly 600$ for me who does live in the EU... And this object has been already used, don't ask me about the price of so-called "sealed boxes" that have never been used before...

So, FFG, when will we have an Ice cave and a sea to journey to ? :D

I've been playing the Co-Op variants solo past few days and I'm really grateful something like this exist for the game in the first place. I'm playing a Campaign against a buddy, but between them I'm running my same heroes through the Forgotten Souls Dungeon, learning more about their abilities and synergies.

Having only recently gotten into boardgaming heavily,(since January) it surprises me how engrossing it can be rolling dice by yourself, easily have 10+ hours in the first Co-Op alone.(3+ hours more than some $60 videogames)

Anyone that has played the previous 2 co-op expansions played Dark Elements yet ?

I'd be keen to hear ones thoughts on it.

Only played FS twice (lost both) but got DE today. I have 3 expansions now but I still need to have all the figures painted before continuing !!

Just discovered the CO OP adventures. These are really great.

Still going through this Dungeon, this game is brutal. Failed the Lengthy Sewers, and opening the door led to the 2nd encounter (which I also failed, 2 movement points short!)

Here are a few pictures from the run:

I'd much rather be there, rolling some dice - than here at my day job.

lol i'm with you. I'm having a heck of a time. I'm sitting here bored at work wishing I could play. I don't think I've even made it to act II yet.

Lengthy sewers is tough but I get hammered on the Fog filled passage. Especially if it shows up early.

So I'm new to Descent. Me and my friend play the Co op D&D board games mostly and have moved over to Descent mainly because of these new co op campaigns. However there are only the 3 adventures currently so I went to the Quest Vault to see if there were co-op community games and didn't see a check box for any of the 3 co-op expansions. I see it's still in beta but is there any news on if there going to let people create and search for custom quests using just the 4 monsters from the activation cards on any 3 of these adventures?

Rex,

I don't think that people will be designing those in the Quest vault. The base game plays differently from the co-op game. Mechanically the same, but the phases are different, there are extra components that the Quest maker would have to make in addition to ... well actually now that I'm this far in this statement I don't think that a person can even make a quest in the Vault that would apply to the way the co op game works.

But having played 1... like twice, I can say that they are a lot of fun. (worth getting the game solely for tho....? hmm)

Alternatively, there is this(which is awesome): https://boardgamegeek.com/files/thing/104162

BBG has a few fan-made variants to try out for co-op, a much much more things for the regular game.

Do give it a look.

Ya now that I've played around a little more with the game I see what you mean as to why that would not work in the quest vault but thank you for the link. The automated overlord looks very awesome!

I played Dark Elements earlier this week and I think the balance is a bit weird. There's a room in DE that ask you to activate some stuff in the middle of the place, and this stuff is surrounded by 4 monsters. The number of monsters change with the number of players but not the stuff you need to interact with...

I think this particular room is not feasable with only 2 Heroes...we tried and tried and tried but we couldn't find a way to do it in the short time we had too...

But the thematic is really present and each room offer something cool thematically and mechanically.

My favorite is Nature's Ire though, then FS and lastly DE...
