Descent Second Edition - New Co-Op - Dark Elements

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Oh I wasn't expecting this! Excellent :)

So can we expect the next one to require some Labyrinth of Ruin figures, then some Trollfen, then some Nerekhall, and finally some Manor of Ravens? That means 4 more scenarios! Cool!

W00t! Excellent, and more monster variety by using expansions, wonderful!

Was this part of a seasonal kit at one time? Because I missed that one.

Is this the end of OP kits for descent? No spring kit was announced and now the solo campaign that would have been included has been released.

I am just pleased to start seeing some variety by requiring expansions other than the base game. This should allow for different maps, different monsters, etc.

I always said that FFG would eventually move away from the model of only requiring the base game. Imagine now, if you will, an ultimate co-op which utilizes all of the expansions to date. That would really be sweet.

Looks great! I love the co-op expansions as they work so well for solo play too :-)

I am a little bummed that Merriods were reused again.. I know there weren't any new monsters to choose from amongst base set and LotW.. But maybe they could have used a lieutenant(s) in some fashion...

Nonetheless, always cool to see... Now where is Heirs of Blood? :D

I really like those coop adventures, I only play Descent this way now.

Nice. No store sells these though, prolly have to order it online. I have not played co-op but it looks fun.

Very cool! Glad to see that expansions are starting to be included with these co-op adventures. I found a copy of Nature's Ire at my FLGS a couple months ago. Hopefully they'll have a copy of this new one as well.

Do these co-op adventure packs contain anything that could be used in normal overlord included campaigns? I mean something like shop cards?

This sounds good. I'd like to see the co-op side of the game developed further with a full-size expansion.

No, they don't. Just material to make the adventure a coop.

This is nice. I haven't even finished a full session of the first co-op, but I'll still put this on my list. That Merriod art is terrifying, I love it.

Ok thanks. I'm not really interested in these small co-ops (only things I'm not buying) but if they do a full co-op campaign I would get that for sure.

I do love the fact that they've included the need of an expansion, could mean great things ahead :)

They explain that the Co-Ops are like a Campaign, just a mini version. You get experience and loot as you go through each room. The monsters switch to ActII midway and so there you go.

But maybe they could have used a lieutenant(s) in some fashion...

I really hope ffg will soon provide to us a more complete expansion for the coop mode, although for now it seems my group is ok with our updated variant ( https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/115267/sudden-death-cursed-mountain-version-3 ) which also includes Merick and Eliza. :P

Nevertheless I think I will probably be less interested in an e xhausting campaign versus an automated overlord. What I would really like to see is a ffg coop mode providing a good replayability with an acceptable playing time. :)

You probably won't see these in stores because they are Print On Demand products, not a manufactured product like the main Descent stuff is.

It does take a while, but on-line stores like CSI do end up selling these products.

am I the only one getting a bit annoyed by little packs of cards for 15 bucks with so-so replayability?

the small expansions are 40 bucks and give you minis, map tiles and new functionality. the big ones are 60 dollars, which is the price for 4 pod packs.

I'd rather prefer ffg would do a proper full fledged campaign in a box...

"Dark Elements is now available through Fantasy Flight Games’ in-house manufacturing and at your local retailer ."
the shipping for POD stuff outside the US is often more than the cards itself.
plus FFG only does english (afaik), if you want localized versions you have to wait for store release.

I am sure there are many gamers who share the same thoughts; I am one of them and this is also the reason why my group came up with a variant for the coop games. :P

I suppose ffg is pushing for separated adventures, instead of a single comprehensive expansion, to test the market and/or increase the profit (the last adventure could eventually help to sell more Lair of Wyrm boxes).

However I hope they will soon release something more than separated adventures; I think the competition in coop dungeon crawlers is continuing to increase, and some Descent gamers could eventually switch to other companies. :(

Anyone else a bit bummed that FFG seems to no-longer be including Descent in organized play? I really liked the game night kits, which included prizes and stuff to help get people together to play at their FLGS.
