Whats better? X wing or Armada?

By Azorius16, in Star Wars: Armada

I personally live armada's scope. . . I love how we get to use the true monsters of the Universe to combat eachother. Where battles are not wagered on dinky single pilot starfighters but on the hulking monstrosities that house hundreds to thousands of souls. Where a mistake can cost you the entire game, and where the glory is brought on such a big scale.

In X-Wing, toast are held in honor of the victors but in Armada Songs and Sagas are written to remember a battle.

This is why I love Armada more than X-Wing

I never did get into X-Wing. Oh I loved looking at the models but what it takes to build something that can actually survive in a game and maybe win costs so much to get going. . . So far in Armada I have 2 core sets, another $440 in Wave 1 and when the Wave 2 preorder hits for my FLGS I will be buying 3-5 MC30c's, 2 ISD's and 2-3 MC80's. . . All because they lol fantastic and the game feels like what an actual Capital Ship game should feel like!

for curiosity u cant play armada and x wing at the same time ? i putting both in a same game

No, the games are completely different in that regard.

Wow....this might win the all time award for post necromancy. April of 2015, pre well before wave 2 dropped. That took some digging to find (or just a simple search).

Its not a slam on X-Wing because its an entirely different game but I would have to say Armada because in it you can at least simulate squadron play. In X-Wing you can barely simulate Gozanti and CR-90 play and that's not a bad thing necessarily, but Armada encompasses a far wider field.

Nah, we had one for 2014 like, 2 months ago. No big deal.

the two games are drastically different. Other than the Starwars theme theres very little similarities, both in mechanics and mindset.

Xwing is a bit easier to fly off the seat of your pants. Preplanning is preferred obviously but most of the time if you gotta change directions on the fly youre fine. Armada can be considered waaaay more complex because you cant play that way: you almost have to plan majority of the game out turn0.

Honestly i cant say which is better. I love armada because BIG SHIPZZZZ!! and the mechanics just feel more natural for said ships, but i also love Xwing because 1) faster game time 2) easier to spur-the-moment setup and play and 3) offers a bit more personal feel to each ship.

Though i doubt Armada would replace the title of FFG's flagship game. Its easier to add things to a fighter-based game, but a flagship game? Im already drawing blanks on possible inclusions to Armada and its only wave5!

Every time a squadron engages change into an X-wing table? HELL YEAH!

Also make an objective with a double parallel goal with Imperial Assault (Like the Battle of Endor)

Actually, this is kind of how we do it in our star wars RPG games.

We have parts of the xwing and armada mechanics for use in space ship battles.

Basically, the players move their ship around on an armada scale map, with npc ships out there, etc. If they get engaged with something, we switch to xwing ...
