Descent: Icewind Dale Box Set !!!

By ArkhamFarter, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

First off, I absolutely love Descent 2E!!

And it seems FF is completely moved to Descent: Star Wars, but come on!!! they can't be done with it for good right??

I need a snow setting to complete my collection, and Im sure others agree. No more cookie cutter dungeons and forests.

We need an ice cave dungeon side and snowy trails/woods flip side. Frost giants, snow trolls, whatever... Is this gonna happen? or are we just done here with 2E?

Is there any news anywhere other than these useless hero/monster box sets?

Thanks!!!!

I don't believe they're done with D2E just yet, IA won't change that and to be frank, both games are distinct and popular enough to be supported at the same time.

They will be done with D2E when a third edition comes out.

Considering they just announced Bonds of Fate, I'm sure they are not finished yet with it. If they released another set, I'd like to see a Ocean based theme. Focused on ships (Ship tile) Ocean creatures and Pirates!

We'll soon have another campaign (Heirs of Blood) although unfortunately it's just a book, not a box set, and as Omnislash024 said they have just announced another hero and monster collection (which I disagree that they're useless as they provide more variety and add an act 1 and 2 quest) and that's for the 3rd quarter of this year. So could still be too early to announce more stuff, I AM hoping more boxed sets are released as I feel like when I was a kid opening Heroquest every time I open a descent box :D

I think it's more likely that we'll see small box expansions instead of big ones though otherwise they would have released a box along with Heris of Blood. Just my opinion, and hope I'm wrong :)

Runebound had the frozen north as an alternative board, and the descent hero's could adventure there. So it would make sense to have some frozen tiles for descent.

I would love to see some kind of conversion that makes the Sea of Blood playable in 2E. Even if it was just a book with updated rules and maps, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Remember also that they announced another co-op and that there is probably at least a small box expansion to even the number of classes available (5 healers & mages vs 6 warriors & scouts). Descent gives them money, don't expect them to stop.

Wendigoes fit the theme maybe? There's also a tile in the core game featuring an icy cave.

But it would be nice to have more of it, with possibly more terrain, like icy doors you can break, or snow spaces slowing you down.

I really like your idea of breaking the ice to create a new path!

Breakable ice doors is a great idea- perhaps they would function like overgrowth? You can count spaces, but you cannot move/trace line of sight through them.

"A hero with the burning condition may move through an Ice Door without testing Might." :D

"A hero with the burning condition may perform a special action to melt an Ice Door. The Ice Door is then removed from the map."

"Breaking an Ice Door only allows passage until either all heroes or the overlord have finished their respective turns, as it simply will freeze again."

Maybe there should be some monster type - a bit like Fire Imps - , who lose life when they end their movement on a non-snow space, and gain life if they do end up being on a snow space. Maybe they could even reinforce on snow spaces. Pushing this forward maybe it would tactically interesting if said monster could get good defense dices on snow spaces, and bad defense dices on non-snow spaces. Sounds thematic to me.

Pushing this even more forward, maybe figures (both heroes and monsters) could be harder to hit by ranged attacks depending on where they are if you now think of outdoor tiles as being wiped by blizzards and bad weather in general.

Maybe we could even introduce some kind of a Wind direction mechanism, where you set the wind direction to one of the 4 cardinal points. Starts in a pre-defined direction according to quest rules, then it might change every turn randomly (or due to a OL card). You get less range/damage on your ranged attack if you fire an arrow in the opposite wind direction, or additional range/damage if you position yourself so you can shoot with the wind on your back. Why not some additional tactical elements to the game, doesn't sound overly complex to me.
