We have another Descent expansion that is coming around the bend. But no word of new Runebound products, small or big. Whadaya guys think?
End of Runebound?
I think he sale figures of Runebound are not as good as the sale figures of Descent... maybe, if there is a free production slot, some FFG people will go back to Runebound. Hopefully!
Having just mentioned this on the Tannhauser board, I'm still waiting for FFG to show some love for the weasel, Ronan's former sidekick.
It's a shame that so many new forum users here don't know of the weasel's colorful ways -- always snickering behind the Mild One's back, spring Walter the Fox from prison in Forge, (allegedly) embezzling from the Ronan of the MIld Fan Club, parting company with Ronan before he headed for the Isle of Dread, his wild partying with Andira Runehand, and his hush-hush dalliance with Lady Cathori.
It could very well be that either Runebound is fading away; or, FFG is still in negotiations with the weasel's attorney over licensing issues with their next expansion, tentatively titled, "Woodland Creatures Gone Wild."
Since there is already a boatload of expansions, it's not like they did not support the game. FFG has a tendancy to keep games in print for a very long time also so I don't thank they will discontinue the game, just maybe not make any more expansions.
While I did not like this game multiplayer, I need to try it solo cause I hear it is great as a solo game (and faster)!

I was thinking the same thing. But I will stay hopeful
I'm also worried about the future of Runebound. It's still my fav. FF board game and I'd love to see more expansions for it.
Your post got me thinking. I usually play the base Runebound with all the card deck expansions because I love the massive amount of variety in encounters and the market stack. I love that many things will not make an appearance in any given game. Keeps each game new and fresh. And it's for this reason that I don't play the big box expansions often. Having to settle for tiny little stacks of encounters is just too hard to do.
I would love to see 30 card deck expansions for all the main big box expansions (Sand, Island, Frozen). I know it's less likely that FF would release an expansion for expansions but I'd buy up everyone of them.
I know there are some good home brew solo rules for Runebound, but I always hoped that FF would put together a expansion to help make a really solid solo experience.
Hopefully we'll see more for Runebound soon!
But in your opinion, someone from the FF staff is going to read these topics? It could be important in order to "shake" the system (as here in Italy we say) and obtain some result.
With the size of these forums covering all of the games, its unlikely that someone reads all of them and all of their topics. But as a newcomer to the game, I was rather daunted by the number of expansions once it came time to pick the first ones. Maybe it's just because I am new to RB but it seems like there's already a lot of options with the game.
And have any of you thought of just making some additions of your own?
I think it's safe to say Runebound has made its mark on FFG's sales reports. I agree the number of expansions coming out for it seems to have trickled to a halt, at least for now, but that doesn't mean RB is dead. Descent is certainly a more popular game so it's unsurprising that its getting more attention right now, but Descent also has a lot of ground to make up in the Terrinoth universe. The latest expansion, for example (Sea of Blood) seems to be the Descent equivalent to Island of Dread (the new overland map looks to be based on IoD just as the Road to Legend map was based on RB core.)
I too would love to see expansions that add cards to some of the big box expansions for RB, but even if that's not in the cards (no pun intended) for us, then I'm sure RB 3e will be on its way eventually.
Edit: And yes, the FFG designers do occasionally read these forums. I'm not saying they read every post on every game board, but their presence has been felt before. If you want to see something happen it certainly doesn't hurt to talk about it here!
Oh no, I hope there won't be a 3e just yet. I've already started the investment in 2e.

The WFRP Forum is read by the developing FFG staff (they do not comment or intervene although, except when the language gets harsh). So I assume this forum will also be read. So keep your wishes coming guys
I, for my part, wish that there will be a ton of new cards for the various expansion boards. The ones included are not enough for my taste!
I do wonder at least about the Midnight big box. I'm new to the RB in general, but looks like that one big box is impossible to find. Is it at least going to get a reprint?

I seem to recall hearing that it was down and out (no reprints planned.) I could be wrong about that. I'm not sure that it sold as well as the rest of RB since it was a fairly big departure from the normal gameplay style.
Have you taken a look at all the material produced by the fans of this great game?
In my opinion a future expansion could be extracted (or inspired) from this material.
Personally, I would like to see an oriental big expansion with great dragons and martialist characters (samurai, monk, ninja...), I love these things...
@tarheel: I also recall Midnight big box expansion being down and out (no plans for a reprint...in contrast to Isle of Dread which was released prior to Midnight had received at least one reprint). Aside from the fact that it has reached saturation in terms of expansions, I have a feeling RB is being much neglected due to Talisman and a deluge of adventure games already out or planned (WoW adventure game, Middle-Earth Quest, Game of Thrones adventure game, etc). Since the world of Terrinoth continue to get excellent exposure through Descent, a relaunch of RB in the future would not be amiss. Personally, since I'm having fun with 2e as it is, I'm not sure if I'd make the jump if that time ever comes.
@iena: Red Scorpion (base RB) & Lyssa of the East (IoD)...don't they also have that asian flavor that you seek? Now that I think about it, the weasel also hails form the land of the panda.
I'm glad that I picked up everything that FFG put out for Runebound 2nd edition; even if a couple of things - the class decks and the convoluted Midnight variant (with the exception of it's characters and market cards) - remain unused. Runebound is a great game for between 2-4 people, and provides a somewhat more detailed, balanced and story-driven game experience that Talisman. If FFG produced nothing else for it then I wouldn't be particularly bothered; as I think I have something like ten possible variants on the standard game as is. I must admit though that I find this type of free-roaming adventure game (along with Talisman and WoW:TAG) a whole lot more fun than dungeon crawlers like Descent and it's ilk.
I bought Runebound about 2 months ago and it is sitting on my shelf, wrapped in birthday wrapping paper, taunting me! Just four more weeks. I've read the rules backwards and forwards and every review on every expansion and can't wait to get stuck in to new adventures and yet I haven't even tried the base game yet! Lol... I'm pretty much just now discovering FFG although I have owned and played a good number of their games when they were produced by other companies. Can't wait to get stuck into Runebound, if I love it, I'll be back for more! Here's hoping FFG keep runebound alive!
I doubt they will abandon Runebound with this they just announced...
Frog, do you really think that??
I don't know... but in my humble opinion the launch of this new game doesn't look promising for Runebound...
They are using the fame of Runebound and his "world" in order to launch new products (like they done with Descent) but this doesn't mean that new expansions for Runebound will be launched...on the contrary I think that Runebound will be forgot...
I hope this will never happen but for the moment I see a lot of games "inspired" to Runebound but never product FOR Runebound...
You know, I really don't like the box artwork for this new Runewars game. It's a little too colourful and just seems a little bit cheesy to me. That having been said; I would imagine that with it's release it is fairly unlikely we will be seeing anything else produced for Runebound.
It's true they may not make new expansions, but come on they have like 24 decks of expansion cards and 3 big-box expansions plus the alternate universe expansion of Midnight. That is an insane amount of content!
Even if they don't make more, my guess is that they will keep it in print and cross-sell it with Descent and Rune Wars. None of these games really overlap. Runebound is Adventure, Descent is dungeon-crawl, Rune Wars appears to be strategy/tactical miniatures. I like Descent! I really want to try Runebound(I think I'd love it for solo play), but Rune Wars does not interest me at all at this point. Now if they made a Terrinoth RPG at some point, I'd really be interested in that! Also look at the box for Rune Wars close and you will see a big Runebound symbol on the box. That is meant to cross-sell the game. I'm suprised they don't do that on Descent also.
And I'd not count this game out yet, after all they did release a big-box expansion for it this year...
Runebound had an amazing run even lasted through Decent, but the story must go on and it appears that is what Runewars is doing. You still send the heroes on quests but now the world is fighting for the Dragon Runes. The game has evolved basically.
I have gotten my use out of all the Runebound decks and boards. I guess now I should order the card sleeves so that I can mix the base game items with the expansions.
Thank you FFG for working to keep this game alive for so long. It was a very fun adventure for me. Time to upgrade.
bitva posted this over in the Rune Wars thread about this same question...
"Finally, I specifically asked if there were plans for a new Runebound expansion at GenCon and was told there was and to expect an announcement at some point.
Runebound is fine. It doesn't conflict with Runewars. If you played Battlemist, you'd understand."
Unless the announcement was Runewars
, cuz technically it is expanding the story of Runebound forward.
I won't be upset if there are more expansions coming and actually hope that you are right.
Hello Everyone,
It seems that FFG have been releasing, on average, 1 big box and 3 card expansions every year, since 2005.
Maybe on Christmas there will be announcement of another 3 card expansions, since we've already had a big box expansion this year (The Frozen Wastes)?
The idea with card expansions to the big box expansions is really appealing to me.
