Custom card/ship yard: Star Trek (Armada)

Just for fun (one of my favorite ships):

It might be for fun, but we should tidy the wording up anyway...

1) When do you exhaust the card? The card seems to work WHILE exhausted but there is no trigger or timing TO exhaust it.

2) if the intention is to work while exhausted, why bother with that wording at all and just have it work all the time as long as the defending zone has 3 or more shields.

3) if it’s a temporary boon - have it exhaust on defending, and reduce the shield restriction to 1 or more.... since then, it only works on 1 shot a turn that hits shielding.

It was meant to exhaust during the "declare target" step.

What about:

"During the declare taget step, exhaust this card. In the following attack onyl [crit] inflict damage to this ship, as long as the defending hull zone has X shields."

What would you prefer? Temporary boon or permanent with restriction to work only on full shields?

Declare target - is that before or after they choose it as a target? Are you using it preemptively to dissuade them from choosing it? Because “before” would be better then. Kinda.

It works either way - I’m agnostic to the fluff, just trying to tighten the rules wording.

Either it’s a one shot temporary boob that’s great against one shot but multiple shots “trace” their way through it, in which case, it’s a cheap retrofit, or it could be an always on and only work when shields are at maximum.... just to prevent it being always on and always good

Why is this card twice the cost of HIEs? It does the same thing, and can be fielded by less models.

Because it could be used in addition to other ion upgrades as it uses a different slot.

Also pointed out, no exhaust...

No exhaust and the Husnockship comes with 6 Blue dice in the front and is not Ion but Retrofit.

To expensive?

I am very happy for help with the wording. In the fluff it was just great shields, that were not penetrated.

Perhaps a permanent boon is just easier?

As long as the defending hull zone has 3 shields onyl [crit] inflict damage to this ship.

Good points, I hadn't considered that. So technically you could use this with HIEs.

18 points may be prohibitive though, since you already have to pay for the other cards anyway. Maybe 12?

Perhaps this is better. You could use it multiple times however.

You could combo it with HIEs only once. And you are paying 27 points for a combo that can only be used 5 times max. Then, it's back down to 18 for 3 shields, and on a different target.

I definitely get why it's expensive, 6 free damage is ridiculous. But at 18 points, I'd be hard pressed to use it outside of killer combos.

Not to mention that the only ship that can take this doesn't have an ion slot.

everytime I look at your fantastic work, next to my joy about the Dderidex, I get such a sad feeling that there is no company to do her and all the other great ships justice. Star Trek Armada....how good would it feel to obliterate a Klingon vessel in style ?

I dont think its undoable to unite bigger, more immobile ships like the Dderidex with agile capitals like the Defiant.

Glad to hear that. I think that too.

It is ridiculous huge. It is however not very well armed or powerful. A possible explanation is that the romulans build the ultimate Jack of all trades. Perhaps it has huge storage capacites and science stations, perhaps they even grow their own food there and actually generate supplies instead of using them.

don't forgot there's the MASSIVE empty space between the "wings".

I’m agnostic as to trek (in games anyway, love the shows/movies), but this really makes me want to stat out other stuff in Armada rules. The problem is, stuff like 40k ships really don’t work at Armada scale. An Emperor Class Battleship would be so far beyond the limits of what this game can pull off (primarily because 40k generally uses MUCH larger engagement distances. But just to try and figure it out, an Emperor class would have big broadside batteries of red dice, no pros weapons except maybe a Lance with special rules, like a crit effect that is not an option: discard all dice to remove all shields from the defending hull zone, if no shields deal a bunch of damage?

I do know that void shields could be represented by having a lot of shields on all facings, but once one facing is depleted, all shields go away.

All in all, probably just better off waiting for a new version of BFG.

Has anyone tried statting out the Galactica?

Isn't that just a Rapid Launch Bays Defiance, haha?

Sure, even considering this is still huge compared to Star Trek and seven some Star Wars ships. While it is a long as an ISD its surley not comparable to it, hoewever it easily compareable to the next smaller class of ships like the Victory class, despite the huge empty space.

For 40k (conenctrating on Star Trek for now) I thought about focusing on Escorts like the Hunter and Cobra, while they are still incredible huge, they could work in the Armada enviroment. You could even use the battlebarge miniataures for Hunter for example. Orks and Tyranids could be easily scaled down as you would expect from them to have craft of all size. Howwver short of crossovers, 40k already ha a great system: The (old) BFG, which is still a great system.

Battlestar Galactia has some cards. But not many. its next an my list after Star Trek. ^_
