[Gear] Provisional rules for Provisions

By Gregorius21778, in Dark Heresy House Rules

Greetings brethern,
"my name is Gregorius, and I am addicted to rules". While playing a homebrewn scenario that involved travelling on Dusk, I start to grow disappointed with the coverage of rations and food stuff. IH gives you six different examples of provisions, but those five deemed "special" are not given any "effects" to have a reason for not simply staying with "basic food for less a coin".

For those kindred souls who like to actually take travell provisions into account from time to, here are some "provisinal rules" (still hoping for FFG to come around with official ones). Please take note that I changed prices where I deemed fit. No"Availability" is given. I am not sure on that matter.

For Referenz: Meals as a "Service"
I changed the prices for "dishes served". The prices are inteded as "a meal for a person", including something to drink (not necessarly alcoholic). If only a a rather light, common alcoholic drink is wanted (i.e. a bear) half the prices. For strong or "fancyfull" alcoholic drinks, keep the prices.
Low Grad (Vermin Meat, Hydro-Fungus) A half gelt*
Mid Grade (Proto Paste, Groxmeat) 3 gelt

House Rule: Level of Malnutrition
Some of this foods aren´t nourishing. If the rules say that a figure gains a level of Malnutrition, he is also considered as taking an equal level of fatigue which cannot be regained as long as the figure suffers malnutrition. If the exceeds the TB, the figure will collapse and die soon.
After a number of days with “sustaining food” equal to the level of malnutrition, the level of malnutrition drops with a rate of one per day.

Please take note that the rules for malnutrition are very very simple. They are not intended to “simulate real starvation”. They are just there to make provisions and nutrition an element in the game for those who would like to incorporate this thread in game.

[sTANDARD PROVISIONS]
Combat Ration Pack (CRP) (1kg; 2 gelt)
Me thinks, this is the most "reasoable" of the food stuffs. I kept it unchanged and used it as "standard reference".

Travellers Rations (0,5 kg; 1 gelt)
The local "version" of what somewhat would take with him as a days ration on travell. On a feudal world, this might be cheese, bread, and a bit of a smoked sausage. On a industrialized world, this might be canned beans, dryed algea and a tube of groxpaste. "Durability" and "taste" of the food varies.

[sPECIAL PROVISIONS]
Cilivian Relief Rations (p.183; IH) (0,5kg; a quarter gelt)
Due to the lack of nourishment, a person is considered as having taken one level of malnutrition if he has been living on CRR for a number of days equal to half TB (round up). After living on CRR for number of weeks equal to his TB, the person must pass an ordinary toughness check each passing day or gain another level of malnutrition.

Emergency Rations (p.183 IH) (1kg; 10 gelt)
An emergency rations packs turns a day worth of a given ration into a week worth of a given ration. However, the “stretched” rations due not provide much energy for the body. A figure living on “stretched” rations for a number of days equal to his TB needs double the time to regain fatigue and must pass an ordinary toughness check every time he/she undertakes anything strenuous. If the check is failed, the figure gains a level of fatigue. As a rule of thumb, fighting is strenuous, as is any physical activity that last a number of hours up to half TB (round up). If a person lives on “strechted” rations for a number of weaks equal to his TB, he has to pass a routine toughness check every (TB) days passing. If failed, the figure gains one level of malnutrition. This is additional to other “side effects” the “stretched” rations might have.

Daily Prayers (p.183; IH) (weight _ ; 1 gelt)
Due to the lack of nourishment, a person is considered as having taken one level of malnutrition if he has been living on “Prayer” for a number of days equal to half TB (round up). After living on “Prayer” for number of days equal to his TB, the person must pass an challenging toughness check each passing day or gain another level of malnutrition.
If using “prayer” as an additive to any other “non-sustaining” provisions, “prayers” give a +10 on roles to avoid levels of malnutrition if ingested daily. If ingest less often, but at least twice a weak the bonus drops to +5.

Long Duration Packs (p.183) (1kg; 5 gelt)
Due to the extra energy, figures living on LDP gain +5 on checks to avoid loss of fatigue due to forced marching or similar strenuous activities.

Ration Grub (p.155 IH) (Weight: - ; 5 gelt)
After living on Ration Grubs for a number of days equal to once TB, the figure must pass an routine toughness check to resist the resuming poisons. This check has to be performed daily from there on. If failed, the person grows sick for that day (and an additional day for every level of failure). A “grub sick” person suffers -5 to all roles and will not recover if continuing to eat ration grubs. If the check was failed by three levels, the malus is -10 instead of -5. If failed by five levels or more, the figure will lose one wound as well. This wound will not recover as long as the person is “grub sick”.
