Rollin Rollin Rollin

By Nghtflame7, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Fiance' is out of town in DC tonight doing her Navy reserve drills, so I did what any randy wild ass fella would do. I played three games of AH!

I had an interesting situation in the game I just finished against Chaugnar Faughn. Vincent, Patrice, Mark and jaqueline, all drawn randomly.

On the first turn Mark moved to the graveyard. His encounter let him go to any location in Arkham and have an encounter, so he went to Falcon Point to have an encounter. Falcon Point let him steal a boat to any aquatic location and have an encounter, so he went to Devil Reef (where the pre-game gate had opened. He got sucked into the OW. When his OW encounter came around, it allowed him to return to Arkam. By the end of the first turn he was on the only open gate (well, until mythos) with an explored counter. What fun. Sealed Devil Reef with Patrice's help on the second turn.

Now, for you Patrice haters, yes, she was a huge help. I think at one point she had 15 clues (thanks to getting the KiY for starting gear.) We slapped down about three seals within the first 8 turns. Yes, I remembered the detriment to skill checks inthose neighborhoods. The rest of the game was a nail biter. Most of Patrice's clues got spent keeping folks from getting fried by monsters, the rumors that popped up, etc. Eventually she ended up trapped in Kingsport with virtually no clues, while we had to close the rest of the gates the old fashioned way. Everyone had failed their PS at that point. By the bitter end, we sat with 11 of 12 doom tokens onthe doom track, 5 tokens on the DOR track, and terror track on 3. We squeeked out a seal win (by Vincent, no less!) at that point. Yikes!

Gotta set up for a few games tomorrow. The beloved doesn't retunr from the Pentagon until 5pm, so I can get a few games in tomorrow after I complete the honey-do list.

My best so far is 3 seals in 6 turns (ironically, also against Chaugnar Faugn it seems, looking at the stats). Of course, after the last seal, there were no open gates out there and I had enough gate trophies for the closing win, so no need to go for a seal win.

Chaugnar Faugn versus Patrice? I'm surprised he didn't run away screaming the moment she showed her face in Arkham.

By the time I played that game last night, I had a few beers and managed to completely forget that Patrice could lend her clues to other investigators for the first 2 or 3 turns. Whoops!

Chaugnar's slumber-party ability is about as bland as his final combat is, in the words of Eric Cartman: "Hella lame."

That would make a difference.

Chaugnar Faugn was eventually found in northern Maine, curled up in a ball and sucking his thumb. When approached, they could hear him muttering, "Make violinist go away. Don't like violinist."

I thought it had been ruled that Patrice's clue ability could not be used by other Investigators for the purpose of sealing gates, only for adding to skill checks?

Is this rule not official errata, or am I mis-understanding the original comment?

Cheers

That's just a house rule.

Hella lame, huh? Has anybody actually managed to defeat Chaugnar Faugn in final combat yet?

I meant lame in the forced gearing sense. What's up with that anyway? Arbitrary increase in the duration for 1 GOO, that's just weird.

I was in a fairly good position in one of my games against CF, but it didn't go to final combat (none of my 3 games against CF have gone to final combat). I had 2 GOO attack cancellers (drawn during setup partido_risa.gif ), 2 investigators with an Ally (I think one of them had 2 Allies in fact).

**** fine rule at that. I recommend it for anybody, whether or not they've realized Patrice's humongous "issue."
