Suggestion for obstacle identifier convention

By Udo77, in X-Wing Rules Questions

My suggestion for an obstacle naming convention :

Asteroids: A1- A6 (from small to big)

Debris clouds: D1 - D6 (from small to big)

D1, D3, D6: Decimator

D2, D4, D5: YT-2400

Pictures (also single pictures)

just assume that the "T" in the Pictures means "D"

Reason: for a tournament you have to choose 3 different obstacles, but they have to be the same for every game. The best is you specify them together with your squad list. The easiest would be to use a short designation like: A6, D3, D6. This Kind of IDs should be the same for every tournament worldwide. Battle reports etc. would also become easier.

What do you think? Any suggestions? Are there already naming conventions in Vassal for this?

I think it's a good initiative, and I am not sure if I have seen any convention already out there.

The problem I have with your proposal is that everyone needs to refer to this picture to remember what code belongs to what obstacle, as they are assigned arbitrarily.

I would suggest something that has some mnemotechnical content, so that the symbol reminds the shape, and the shape reminds the symbol.

What do you think about this one?

Just draw your obstacles behind your rosterwhile holding them down, easy.

That's precisely what we had people do at a tourney today!
