Nyogthas joke.

By dj2.0, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Nyogtha, the living Void. Beautiful.

The game was going reasonably ok, Norman and Willliam were blessed, I had 4 seals on the board, they were all on burst prone hot spots, and the deep ones were at 2, but no more clues, and only a few on the board, 2 or 3. Plus, Nyogtha was sitting there with 8 doom on him, and only 3 gates open, one on devil reef, the other on the marsh refinery, and a tendril guarding a gate on unvisited isle . The only gate in Arkham. Then, just as both blessings withered away,

Blackest Night, followed by...

Dark Day....

Both in play at once...

I started getting nervous. Thats when I noticed...IT.

Watching me.

Savouring my sweat.

I knew It was playing a psychological game with me. I had to ignore all the threats, and focus on what needed to be done, not what was at stake. I passed on Withers Find Gate to Joe and sent him and William on 1 sanity through the gates that had opened, knowing I was only a frakup away from blowing the whole deal, with Norman find gateless on 2 gate trophies, I could have thrown it all to hell and prepped for battle...not my style...

6 seals.

Moral: dont let the game frak with your head.

Wait, what? How the hell did the Tendril end up staying on the board?

otherworld enounter put it on the gate that the investigator came through. Since tendril was not defeated, it did not leave. Maybe I did that wrong, it hardly matters anyway.

I would say that the Tendril is only substituted for a cup monster when it's intended to be immediately encountered and returned to Nyogtha after the encounter.

Good tale though. Can't wait to face Nyogtha again.

Had a similar situation the other night: the tendril came out as a result of "a monster appears" at the Unnamable and sent the investigator to the asylum due to a failed horror check. I left him on the board, figuring he could stay as long as he wasn't needed elsewhere (if another encounter needed him, then I'd move him). Turns out the next turn the Tendril moved to the street due to the mythos card. Then Tommy Muldoon saw a chance to be a hero and pass his personal story. He leaves all of his equipment to others (so selfless) and then faces the Tendril with his bare hands. [Aside regarding timing issue: after the second failed combat round Tommy was at stamina 0 and had not defeated the Tendril. But what happens first: going to St. Mary's or getting devoured? I ruled that since the Tendril could reach and grab him anywhere since it was not defeated, so the 0 stamina was secondary and so Tommy was devoured]. Later that turn Hank goes in and avenged Tommy and sent the tendril packing. All in all, a lot of fun! (And Nyogtha was defeated in the end).
