So what is the meta right now?

By ParaGoomba Slayer, in X-Wing

At least in my group, it's still Turretwing heavy, but with dual Aggressors also. As the lone swarm player who hasn't been playing swarms lately, there aren't any of those. Our group isn't accepting the Phantom nerf as valid until the 15th though. Are any groups that have accepted it early experiencing any significant shift from basically wave 5 Turretwing + dual Aggressors? Return of swarms? Soontir + Mini swarm?

complete ******* chaos (for the better ^_^ )

the top player is at a complete loss because he used to love chiraneau + whisper and auto-thrusters + errata put an end to that. I like the guy and respect his skills, but **** is it satisfying to see him squirm :P

Also, if I even catch a whiff of turrets being played, though, I'm breaking a case full of B-wings and Tie Fighters on it

I refuse to go anywhere near wave 5 again. Good god **** riddance

Pretty random right now. When I start seeing Garven I'll know we've reached meta Nirvana.

I know they're using the new FAQ for the Campaign Against Cancer this weekend. Looking forward to seeing what ships come out to play.

Atlanta is all over the place. Power Hawks, tanky shuttles and interceptors.

The few games I've played on Vassal have been completely random. Heck a guy was even trying out ordnance again (that still fails btw). I'm still flying around with my Tycho build since it just got stronger in W6 and with the phantom errata as the two things it hated were VI Whispers and Turrets, both of which are greatly reduced. Fel is now a "problem," but that's what Corran is for, and the double tap just destroys the poor 'ceptor.

Recently I've been playing around with changing some of the points up to get a double tap stressbot in the list, which has proven effective, but I'm not sure it's more effective than the upgrades on Tycho and Corran.

But this is far from Meta. I've yet to come across anyone else crazy enough as me to run what I run. Perhaps after I win a regional with it =P

This lists that seem to be wining the Store Championships includes the following. Now, this all depends on if the Raider comes out before Regionals starts, in which case Vader and TIE Advance may start seeing a LOT more play!

For Rebels, I have:
- 4BZ
- Fat Han with Zs
- Corran + Dash (either with HLC or Mangler)
- Corran + Chewie with EI, Lando, etc
- Rebel Warthogs (with Stressbot)
- Random 4R (no idea on specifics)
Imperials:
- Autothrusters Soontir + Chirpy
- Autothrusters Soontir + Mini-Swarm
- TIE Swarm (Classic and on the way back!)
- Whisper Plus (Either a Fat D or a mini swarm or other...)
S&V:
- Brobots (Two IG-88s)
- Super Kath + Zs
- Mad Bomber + Zs
- Scum Warthogs

I think this covers the basics...

We will be covering this exact subject in two week on the show!

Interceptors

Super Dash

And surprisingly enough our local meta is seeing quite a bit of Bobba + Decimator (Decimator is all over the place or I'd go into specifics.

Phantoms never really took in Utah. We were lucky to see one show up at a tournament and they never won one.

Out last store championship had a ton of Scum (lots of Aggressors) and lots of Y wings from both Rebs and S&V.

What's been winning here is swarms (Tarninator) and Falcons/Outriders.

Casual Game nights never look anything like the tournament scene.

I think the new decimator whisper and fat Han level lists are going to 97 or 96 point chiraneu+fel and 99 or 98 points double aggressors. I'm calling it now!

This makes me sad! The Decimator is one of the most fun ships to play! Oicunn was amazing, and having 3 crew options makes for some amazing combinations that make every match a joy to play!

I think the Falcon is the only boring turret, since the only upgrades run WERE defensive, not even stress or offense related, which is boring.

100 pt, pfffft.

Need to fill all them upgrade slots, haha.

Though the 98 pt Fel + Chiraneau is very good.

I do make special exceptions for oicuun because his ability is so badass and counter to the typical "runaway and fling dice" playstyle :P

Anyway, the closest thing we have to a-tier lists are a heaver variant (only one player, thank Christ, and he's **** good) and 5 ties + royal guard soontir (2 players)

The former is boring, trite, old, and effective. You roll dice while han has fun maneuvering and hope rngesus doesn't bend you over.

The later is intimidating and great fun to fly against, because the ties will quickly overwhelm you if you don't plan for it.

Most arc dodger players bid to 98. 97 wins 80% of bids and 96 wins 90% you want 99 or 98 for IG'S against the mirror match. Moving last is a big advantage against other IG's

Oh but moving first means you get to block! My one friend swears by that strategy for mirror matched IG88, and I could certainly understand why.

I also think using Soontir to block Soontir is amazing, haha. Though I DO agree that there are more in-game situations (especially last ship Soontir vs last ship Soontir) that being able to arc dodge comes out on top. Though at some point sacrificing a 3 or 4 pt upgrade for init could be hurtful!

Still haven't found anything to beat Han regularly.

I find Rebel Control, 4-5R, TIE swarm, and Corran+Anything able to take down Han. In my last SC, I watched Corran solo Han in 3 rounds.

The Han players I see can consistently arc dodge against swarms thanks to engine upgrade. He's paper to their rock really. I play rebel control, I can take down fat Han if he doesn't take decent escorts or plays poorly but that's about it. Ive seen corran do ok though

good old E-wings

given the limited amount of fire, R2-D2 will crank upwards of 24 points worth of shield upgrades until Corran tears through the fattie

only problem is keeping the fat bastard still while you perform your greens. Don't count on outfighting it (or fighting at all) if you're behind on points :P

can you explain better "power hawks" in your meta?

Sort of on-topic, but is it true that for shorter time controls (such as 60 mins/game), it is better to use large ships like Fat Han while for longer time controls (such as 75 or 90 mins/game), smaller ships could shine?

There is no Meta, only Zuul.

But of course, a small ship is easy to get rid of - whereas an enemy fat turret still on the table counts for 0 MOV points for you. :)

I've only played at the local store lately and it's all Scum vs. Villainy. I've been going with Villainy just to be different from all those Scum players.

One good list I've seen here is Kath w/ 3 Scyks. Two of them are with Mangler Cannons. Kath boosts forward while the Scyks hang back. If you go for the Scyks then you are in Kath's rear. If you go for Kath, then the Scyks rip you up. It's a pretty good list so far.

I want to get more practice against the new Soontir Fel, but no one has been playing him lately.

Does anyone know if the Raider is expected out before Regionals? Mine is in June and I desperately want to play an all Tie Advanced list. I'm tempted to start practicing with it now if it's expected to be out.

It seems its at least two month from the time it hits the boat so at this point if it hit the boat today we're looking mid of June at the earliest.

I play weekly in Atlanta and run a biweekly x wing stream on twitch. Not a great player by any means, but I am thrilled to say that thru various channels of observation, IE tournaments, league nights, and surveying players for our streaming show, I am thrilled to say that after Wave 6, I am seeing the healthiest and most varied meta since Wave 3. Others are complaining in other areas that turrets and phantoms are still rampant, though, and that's upsetting. I'm also not saying that heavy turrets and phantoms are not present, they are just significantly less common than they were at the start of Store Champ season. It's also a joy to see older ships like the Y wing return to the table in rebels and Scum. Even the humble old X wing is having a great time here in the south. Makes me doubt the cries that it needs a fix.

It was admittedly a frustrating game for a while there, both in having to play against net lists and even an almost requirement to play one or not have a chance. The game is healthy again, at least from where I'm standing.
