Do you think this is crazy?

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

ok, so I have a few dozen Star Wars Micromachine action fleet models.

they average 6" in length, but are not exactly to scale to one another, but I don't care.

what I am attempting to do is play backyard X-Wing, I am going to build wooden stands for the ships and have wooden dowels as flight stems.

then using OSB, I am going to make maneuver templates, the bases will be 8"x8", I only have X-wings, A-Wings, B-wings, Y-Wings, TIE's, TIE bomber's, Interceptors, and advanced

That sounds amazing!!!

We're going to want video and pictures of this project for sure! Lawn chess won't have anything on this. lol

It may sound crazy but it just might work...

Crazy space chases around the house

There was a person on here awhile ago that used 1:72 models and played in the back yard. The pictures were awesome.

I live out in the country and my yard is a couple acres, so im thinking giant asteroids to boot !!!!!!

I love it.

I need to do this.

The only issue is that the large base ships are the same size as the small ones. I guess we could use the larger toys for them though, I think I have a Falcon that is sized for the regular sized figures. Heck I probably have enough of the toys that size to make a solid team too.

Wait even better, Legos! You can actually blow up the ship, take chunks of when criticals happen. The possibilities are endless!

*runs off cackling to himself with joy*

we could finally build that star destroyer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mwuhahahahahahaha!!!

I have been planning on doing exactly this. Been scrounging up action fleet ships since I started playing.

I'm figuring a 9'x9' play area and use a yard stick as a range ruler.

I am going to up scale everything x6

I will build range rulers and all

I can't find those either, only the Attack Wing stuff, and it's driving me mad.

Someone at the Nova Squadron FB group must know,

hit them up and we can see some photos.

This was done in a Gymasium Last year at a convention somewhere. They had extra large move templates and models and used the floor. Not sure where I saw it, but I know I did. Google for it.

I want to see your photos when your done.

Thanks,

That's not crazy... but then again, you are talking to a bunch of people who play very passionately with plastic figures... crazy is a bit relative :P

Holy Hell. that should not have been so hard to find:

These are not the ones I was thinking of but from a convention in Russia.

There is another set from Virginia that someone should be able to find.

@OP:

It does sound crazy...

... crazy AMAZING.

Once you get this up and running, take pictures and post them here.

Ah, yes. I forgot about the pictures of the weasley kid playing in Russia.

My question is what to use for the pegs? What will attach to a reasonably flat base strongly enough to support a model 3' off the ground without wobbling?

Like a fox!

If anyone is interested in doing this, I have a FineMolds 1/72 X and Y wing (well, the X is still a WIP, but I would totally finish it up in time). Heck, I'd probably make myself an A wing knowing that I would play with it at 1/72 scale. People would really start complaining though about the pay to play aspect of the falcon, costing $200-500 bucks (instead of just having to pay 90 for the CR90 for C3PO) for the ship itself.

I just thought of something. With legos you can actually build the upgrades and attach them to your ships. You can build a little cloaking device or shield generator. you can put a couple extra plates of armor on for a hull upgrade. You can put actual crew members inside of the ships.

Then when your cloaking device or extra hull is shot off, you can pull it off the ship and leave it in a pile on the ground below where it got shot. You can leave a body behind when one of your crew members dies, maybe even up on a stand floating in space.
