Last week I finally got my copy of 4e revised and didn't even make it out of the store. I recruited two other players and set out the game.
I ended up with the Ghoul.
Random player 1 took the Priest.
Random player 2 took the Assassin.
I was having horrible luck with the adventure cards and making no progress at all. The Priest was doing about average, and the Assassin, in addition to being plain awesome with his assassinate power was also the one who was drawing all the helpful cards. So he pretty much ran away with the game, reaching the Crown of Command with little difficulty.
However, the Priest had picked up a Poltergeist in the meantime, and had settled into the Tavern corner of the board, where in the neighboring fields lived a Healer.
Also, the Ghoul had met his end and I started the Elf while the Assassin was still traversing the Inner Region. But with lots of powerful enemies face-up on the board, I didn't last long with the Elf either. But the Assassin was on the CoC by now, so no more characters for me.
So we ended up with the Priest with his Poltergeist simply moving back and forth from the Tavern to the Healer - healing up to two lives every other turn, while the Assassin could never take more than two lives every two turns. There were no new cards being drawn, and per the rules, the Assassin cannot retreat from the CoC.
Technically, there was a 1 in 6 chance the priest could get drunk and lose a turn, thus giving the Assassin a chance to take an additional life, but the law of averages states that this would have gone on indefinitely and the Assassin's player had somewhere else to be.
Strange game.
unless he draws the transference spell...
