star destroyer internals

By silvertalon, in Star Wars: Armada

i pulled my star destroyer apart just because also to repaint it better i took some photos if people were interested in what the insides were like for adding lights and such

images are just a bit too big to post directly here

Perfect, one could totally slide some magnets into those pegs, house the battery in the hull. How much room is in that back section? Is it 9v, AA, AAA or button sized?

AA and AAA batteries would be blocked by the group of 4 pegs that hold the tower section on and too big to put the top on, if you were to cut those out you might be able to fit a button in there, the engine block sits right up against the 2 blue circled sockets in between those you have just under an inch or 24mm to the center post where the stand attaches, side to side you have about 27mm between posts,

i don't have a button battery on hand so cant say for sure but it should fit, you could also cut the circular part of the center post off to give your self a bit more room but you cant cut it out completely

i added a few more photos to show you how much room is in there using the shield dial for reference

Time to get creative, this is totally doable. But now I'm going to want to put lights in all my Imperial ships... Hopefully there is more room in the ISD. But I'm concerned about the Gladiator. How did you pop those seams? I'm looking for a serrated
xacto blade or something.

a serrated xacto blade would probably be the best, but i used a metal ruler and a regular xacto blade

Looks to me with the Top part there is Female pegs for the top superstructure (that includes the bridge tower) to attach to. Might need to see if that comesoff to allow for fiber optic wiring of the bridge

sorry had to go out for the day

i pulled apart the top section and have started uploading photos for it, i dont think theres going to be enough room to do anything with the top section, the 2 larger deck sections come off easy enough and you can probably fit some fibre optics down in those but the tower part and the bridge are almost solid, guessing you would need to hollow out the tower, if you removed the peg from the bridge you could probably use the room there to place a bit of fibre without having it bend too much

to remove the upper decks i drilled holes in the pegs on the bottom and soaked the whole top section in hot water, the peg hole that the engine block sits in extends up and forms a new peg for the tower, the glue holding the top pulled away pretty easily after soaking and the decks pretty much fell apart, the tower slides backwards to remove it from the decks once you have lifted the decks from the top and the bridge section is pulled up to remove from the tower

*edit - after looking at the tower on mine closely it turns out there was a big air bubble in the middle so it was pretty easy to widen it

So you just slid a hobby knife into the seam between the top half and the bottom half (seam touching the top half, wall attached to the lower) and ...

Cut through posts? Or just pried it apart? I've got the diodes all wired and I'm now hesitating with the blade in hand, trying to figure out where to stab.

sorry been out again

i slid a metal ruler in to break the front post, i couldnt see it clearly at the time but i could have used a hobby knife, but the rear 4 posts i used a hobby knife, i would reccomend the knife as when i tried to use the ruler to break the middle post it started to tear the top of the ship

ive added a few more pics of what i have done now i drilled out the engines and hollowed them out with an almost dremmel, about half way through hollowing them out the nozzel? parts fell out, 5mm led's barely fit inside those parts so a 3mm one would probably be better, i only have 5mm ones on hand though so made do with what i had, i did a mock assembly of the lights and took a test photo but as of now i still havent decided on how to assemble the ship i am going to need to cut out some of the unglued posts in the bottom half of the ship so the led's and wiring will fit though and for power i cant see 2x AA batteries fitting as i need 3v to power the led's so its probably going to have to be a button battery i have some of those coming soon so hopefully i can work something out in the meantime
