Malakai

By Levyten, in Rogue Trader

One of my players "fell in love" with the Forsaken bounty character Malakai (The Missionary with the chain sword & flamer). He is going to play exactly the same character in RT. When we thought about the name, everyone had the feeling that he heard that name before. Does anyone know a game/movie or what ever where someone is named Malakai? There is a Dwarf in the Gotrek & Felix books, but thats not it.

He really like to roleplay bloody chain sword battles, but he has not read any 40k books. Since he is a Missionary i need some combat prayers or anything else he could shout in a combat or elsewhere.

Some fun questions: The picture of Malakai shows him with a pilgrim’s staff in one hand and flamer in the other hand. Can you use a chain sword in one hand and hold the staff in the other hand at the same time, just to look totally awesome? Are the books just made out of paper? Because they would be many blood stains on them :)

Thx

the name is simmiler to 'Malakith' the king of the dark elves in warhammer fantasy

Well, no game or movie, but I have heard this song by Stephen Lynch called "Almighty Malachi proffesional bowling-god". gran_risa.gif

There's always Malachi, the Old-Testament prophet...

Or Malachi from the film Silverado.

There are quite a few instances of people named Malachi in films, books, and history.

AFAIR, I've first met this name in Gotrek&Felix - a mechanic dwarf who built the zeppelin (I've read the novel eight years ago).

Moreover, if you have ever played Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADOM) the hardcore way, there is one evil NPC called "MaLaKaL".

At least until he meets "Beelz"

Aren't they the Avenging angels form In Nomine...Steve Jackson RPG

Yes Malakai is Biblical. Infact all the names in the name generator are taken from the Bible, classic literature, or Roman history. Course some of then names they made themself and are using the ones they found amusing from their own Black Library sources. Names such as Jagadei Khan (Primarch of the White Scars).

As for all your questions about your manic chainsaw toting buddy.

1) Books in the 41st millienia vary, paper, parchment(animal skin), leather bound, vinyl bound, hide bound, scroll form, etc.

2) If the weapon states it is one handed or balanced the user can carry the two weapons, however he msut be trained in two handed fighting / ambidexterous.

3) Prayers can be found all over the web or in classic referance books such as the " Imperial Guard's Uplifting Primer " by black library I would post the ISBN but I cant seem to find it on my copy. The book talks about proper procedures of being a guardsman and is chualk full of useless info, as in its progpganda and is lies to the average guardsmen. Like, "Concentrated Lasgun fire will take down flimsy Eldar tanks".

here are some sample prayers contained in it.

The Emperor's Prayer :

Adore the Immortal Emperor for he is our protector. Admire the Immortal Emperor for his sacrafice to mankind. Exalt the Immortal Emperor for his strict guidance. Revere the The Immortal Emperor for his undying guard. Venerate the Immortal Emperor for his holy wisdom. Honor hte Immortal Emperor for his eternal strength. Glorify the Immortal Emperor for his all-seeing vision. Praise the Immortal Emperor for his unending rule. Haile the Immortal Emperor for he is the lord and master. Worship the Immortal Emperor for without him we are nothing.

Prayer for Safe Return

O Eternal Emperor, Who alone watches us, and rules the tides and storms, be compassionate to your servants, preserve us from the perils of the warp, that we may be a safeguard to the domain of men.

Incantaion of battle (to be shouted and repeated during combat)

Smite the foe! Smash the enemy! For the Emperor we bring Death!

and many more.... Tis a funny read

My full name is Beelzebub, but you can call me "Beelz"!

I love to watch Fox News and then go club some baby seals. gran_risa.gif

I had the very same impression of having seem that name in a game or something. Turns out it is one of the Necris characters from the Unreal Tournament series.

*cough*

You know, just in case that, like me, you didn't have a cultured origin for the name.

More of a Nathin fan myself but yes, Malakai's awesome in that way all 40k clerics are cool.

Red Headed creepy kid from Children of the Corn.

Gives me a notion to rip that movie off for Dark Heresy, Children of Khorne!

"He wants you too Malachi!"

Run Peter Horton and Linda Hailton, Run!

100 Points for the winner! Thats where i knew that name from! I played a lot of ut99 in the good old days... Thanks a for the answer only a good old human could give me! Thats why sometimes a Google-servitor would be better than the stupid heretic machine.

And also a thanks for the prayers :) i am considering to buy the "uplifting primer" one day, thanks for the additional info :)

p.s. just go to the counter and swap your 100 points for a used landspeeder or some Profit :)

Didja know Lion El' Jonson was originally Lion O'Jonson.

Yep. Lion-O from the Thundercats. That's how it was printed in the original WH40k:RT. Rumor has it that it was Jervis' "pet chapter".

These guys were a lot younger and not looking 20 years down the road when they did that. That's why most of the Marine Chapters have lame/unimaginative or downright uncreative names like "Ultramarines" and "Blood Ravens/Blood Angels/Dark Angels". Rouboute Gulliman (sp?) Inquisitor Obi-Wan Clousseu..etc. They were all "pet Chapters" and characters made up by various GW employees to serve simply as examples. They were never intended to spawn a hundred thousand pages of fluff and fiction.

Ever wonder why the Rainbow Warriors mysteriously disappeared after the Book of the Astronomicon was published? (Well, of course not. My guess is 90% of you have never even seen a copy, much less read it or played it). They were a joke Chapter based on Greenpeace and the Gay Rights movement. Who knows? They could be the missing Legion II or IIV...

Hey, don't go bashing old Obi-Wan. As inquisitors go, he was totally radical to the max and his penchant for yin-yangs and totally bad-chicka-rad cowboy hat only showed how tubular his rad investigative methods were!

It just makes you wonder what they'll be thinking about the things we think up or do on a lark 20 years from now...

LOL yes! good times... I do recall lots of things like that, including Rambones. So anywho yeah they have the "Ministry of Truth" at work making fluff change with each rewrite and stating it was as it always was.... Surprisingly enough it works. Anyknow know there is a fith god of Chaos? You know, Malal? OR Zoats and Farmirs? Hah at last people can recall squats. History has a tendancy to be rewritten either due to copyright stuff or jsut because they eventually figure out "What was I thinking"?
