I tried searching for this already.

Cruising the forums, I've read from several posters that if an event says "A gate appears", that means to add a doomer. So this lead me to believe that Doom Tokens are the result of gates opening, contrary to my understanding that it is the drawing of a Mythos card that creates the token. So does that mean that if a Mythos card is drawn and a gate doesn't appear (which is instead a Monster Surge), a doom token does not appear?

If a Doomer appears during every Mythos phase, in addition to other events, that sucks imo because the game already seems impossible for me to beat. Thanks.

Only if you use the BGotW Herald or have that one IH Environment in play. If you have both...

But normally no doomer for monster surge.

And it's not really THAT hard, I have 50% win record with the BGotW Herald (I count final combat "win" as draw; win = close or seal).

Yes, thanks for the quick reply. Now its obvious why I never win, I've been placing about five too many doom tokens per game because of that oversight. Yeah, I noticed it is the general consensus (on the forums anyway) that winning the final battle doesn't count as a true victory. Up until now, I thought I just was no good at the game since I could rarely achieve a "tie".

This is awesome news! Thanks Dam, now I don't have to be scared to try out my never-before-used King In Yellow set. I had been saving it for when I was able to not suck at the base game so much. Can't wait for my next game, I think I'll try a solo after work tonight!
