Problem things/cards in the new standard?

By guitalex2008, in UFS General Discussion

Hate to start a topic that might degenerate into something else, but it's not my intention for it to stray from topic.

I played a few block 4 games and noticed many things.

Pros:

+ Games were a lot quicker. Not turn 2 or less, but turn 4 was about the average turn for end game.

+ The block encourages attacking and blocking. Like, you know, a fighting game and such.

+ No quick momentum gen means momentum is a PRIZE as opposed to just an abusable resource. Again, encourages attacking. Momentum gen is a lot more costly (from hand for Chaos, one card for removing a foundation for Chaos/Death/Evil, dealing damage for everyone else other than Yi-Shan, which still asks to deal damage).

Cons:

- Path of the Master is kind of sick at the moment, considering most decks will be mostly themed.

I'm sure there's much more, but I'd rather leave it open to discussion.

played a lot of basic decks over the past few weeks and all i can say is path is the best card in block 4 period

gotta admit, path is f'n ridiculous. I saw it used to brutal effect with Ivy decks, 7+ attacks in the card pool that match her on all 3 symbols plus path is nearly stupid.

One of the main cons is not all the symbols have enough cards to really compete. Order and Water hardly have any cards and tekken doesn't look like it is fixining this problem. Hopefully the soul Calibur set coming after it will though.

Actually, Water has quite a bit (Lu Chen, Yi Shan). Order as well (Hilde, Astrid). Although they are the symbols with the least support right now...

Let's wait for SCIV02. Any word on characters, by chance?

When pressed James said there's nothing "confirmed" but he had some cards with Mitsurugi and Xianghua in a 5 star deck. So thats 2 I'd count on.

Allow me to toss Stand Off in the pot of possibly problematic cards in post-Gen Con standard.

2 characters is not quite a bit when compared to

Fire: 7
Death: 5
Good:4
Life:5
All: 3
Air:3
Chaos:4
Earth: 5
Evil:4
Void: 4

Also you have to take into consideration that Hilde's Support is pretty much garbage outside of herself and same goes for Strid both of which are just better ran off of Fire. Thus Far with Tekkn we have only seen 1 water Character(Christie) and one Order character according to those at Worlds(Paul) So yeah unless Soul Cal gives these elements at least 2 more characters each they are going to fall behind and be terrible.

Also Hatman is correct Stand off can be a pretty nasty wall. Nothing compared to Criminal Prowess though.

It's just 2 character's support, but remember that one ugly chick with the Twelve ability? She had Water.

Dariya?

Yeah but shes a promo meaning no support. plus Yi Shan's Stuff doesn't really help her at all and is best in him and same goes for Lu Chen though maybe you could use her for reversals so I guess Lu Chen's stuff would be fine.. I would rather just run her off of Air.

Honestly I'm not looking forward to symbol balance this time around - I'll probably be building dual/tri-symbol decks if I can.

aggro will be godly again, but so will control. rashotep's stuff blanks potm PERIOD for the turn, better have more to kill with than just POTM.

also there was a promo given out at worlds that is an asset that blanks assets for a turn, so get hype.

i think it's okay if aggro is back for a bit.

let's FIGHT.

im looking forward to omars character card....select recursion every turn from the discard! Count me in!

Its all about that No forgiveness blanking shizz!!

YEAH!! It ain't Universal Milling System no mo'!! WOOOO!!

Personally i dont see any REAL problem cards yet. POTM is a tad OP but if ur opponent has it out u can always just block the boosted attack, and with cards like ShadoWar and Stand off its not too bad. I also dont see stand off as being too bad just because its one of the only things that can stop Ivy from freaking out on ur face.

It stops Ivy and a whole lot of aggro from mid-to-late game. Plus, it's got Earth on it making it safer than Fort Knox (I'd have said the Canadian treasury but haha we all know safe it really is).

It's not unmanageable. Ragnar overloads it (and HOW!), Sieg can flip it down, Nightmare can blow it up (I use it! You stain my armor it is gone), etc. However, it could be problematic.

we need stand off alot of times man, card is so good.

memories is alot better now as well. so great.

miniblock has control, just not the free costed jank we are use't too LOL.

Stand off so far hasn't been to usefull for me. Everyone had giant attacks I could block, commiting out never seemed like the right call. It had its uses, dont get me wrong...just doesnt seem OP at present.

We don't allow POTM locally, it's far too easy. If I could put it in Lu Chen... well, let's just say Wrath of Heaven is completely impossible to block in the set 12 miniblock format.

Either you're in a big damage meta or you manage to toss out 20 damage attacks turn two (and yes with Ragnar it is very easy to do). I don't really have a problem with it myself, but 95% of my meta does, even the people who do run the card.

IMO, Wonderworld Comics (the Terrain) is a bit OP -- changing zones can easily save your life, and the fact that it has just about the best card draw AND momentum gain in the format is unnerving. It's 3rd Rite's best friend, for sure

It's nothing on PotM, 'course, but that doesn't mean it's fair or anything :b

re:symbol balance: There are basically only 10 symbols in the game now, plus infinity. All Water cards also have Life, and all Order cards also have Fire (which is arguably the strongest symbol, with the biggest base of cards to choose from).

Were can i view these cards at because they are not on twindragon.

What control?

You crazy, son.

There is tapping through stuns, some foundations destruction, and card blanking. That's about it.

Don't forget RFGing with Zhao Daiyu support. If you can get rid of certain cards before they are used, you can make a deck seriously stall out.
