I was just wondering what others used to make custom maps. I'm starting up a campaign soon and was going to throw in a few home brewed quick adventures between the stories in Purge the Unclean. Any recommendations on software to make DH maps? Maps really help with combat, so don't want to leave home with out them!
how to make custom maps
I use two secret special methods.
One involves paper and a pencil, the other involves Microsoft Paint
I use Dundjinni. http://www.dundjinni.com/
Check out Scrivner's Star on the Support page or my sig, the maps are at the end. With Dundjinni you can print out your own battlemats on card-stock. Large battlemats require you to tape many pages together, unless you have some ginormous-printtech.
dundjinni, or SkeletonKey Games tiles (not so great for buildings, too clean)
I am using AutoRealm...but cannot provide a link. Sorry
Long live microsoft excel!!.
It almost, but not quite, makes up for vista.
I jot things down on a yellow pad with a pencil, and then when it's game time I'll break out the battle mat and draw on it. Otherwise I don't see any point in printing up anything other than an overland, macro map to show people where they are in the world.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm gonna try out each of the softwares and choose from there.
Paint shop pro is really usefull, especially if you ues the snap to gird method
I use Doom: The Boardgame.
or theres always the space hulk/crusade tiles and D&D tiles you can download loads from the internet
For tiles, I've been using WotC Star Wars tiles. A bit too clean, but they work well. I put in an order for the new edition of Space Hulk. I'm hoping for 1" squares so I can use it as tiles for DH/RT. And as long as I'll have all those genestealer minis...
For 3D, I have a bunch of the Dwarven Forge SF (and caves & Fantasy). Again, the SF set is a bit too clean. Very Trekish.
thats the problem though its all mostly for games alot lighter than dark heresy
