120pt Theme list - Bright Hope escort

By Cilionelle, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi there,

I'm off to a 120pt tournament soon, a Casual Tier event, and I'd like to take a thematic list with me, namely, four of the six X-wings that escorted the doomed Bright Hope from Hoth.

So far I have:

Wedge (29)

Wes (29)

Hobbie (25)

Tarn (23)

This leaves me with 14 points to play with. But I'm not really sure how to spend them. R2-D6 and Veteran Instincts on Tarn would be fun (perhaps to represent his extra experience after the Bright Hope disaster), then there's 12 points left... what other fun and yet relatively competitive options are there?

I got a thread going several weeks ago called something like "Optimal Astromech X-Wing Pairings" that generated a lot of great discussion.

Ah, here it is:

Tarn's best Astromech is R7 for survivability.

I am growing fond of Expose. That could make for a killer Wedge. Use Garven Dreis to pass around an extra Focus token, put Jan Ors crew on the Transport, and you have the option to give Wedge an Evade token to help make up for the loss of agility from Expose.

I just did a Team Epic game with my Transport, and from my experience, you really want to have a fighter that's going to get a lot of benefit from the Transport's ability to grant a free action.

Personally, I'd go for an Opportunist squad:

Wedge Antilles (29)
Opportunist (4)
R2 Astromech (1)

Wes Janson (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R2 Astromech (1)

"Hobbie" Klivian (25)
R2-D6 (1)
Opportunist (4)

Tarn Mison (23)
R7 Astromech (2)

Total: 120

Wes strips a token from the target. Wedge hits even harder, and Hobbie uses target locks to immediately clear stress from Opportunist. Tarn can be reasonably expected to be 3rd or 4th in your opponent's targeting priorities, meaning he'll probably last until the endgame, where his R7 unit really shines.

Thanks for the help. I sadly don't have Imperial Aces or any E-wings, so it makes Opportunist and the R7 astromech out of reach at this point. I did some tinkering, though, and thought something like this might work...

Tarn Mison (23)
R5-P9 (3)
"Hobbie" Klivian (25)
R2-D6 (1)
Wingman (2)
Wedge Antilles (29)
Adrenaline Rush (1)
R2 Astromech (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Wes Janson (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R2 Astromech (1)
Total: 120
My worry is that there's nothing really to punch through heavier ships, like Advanced Proton Torpedoes or a Heavy Laser Cannon. How critical will that be?

In an all-X-wing list, you'd probably want Garven to assist in a lower PS pilot getting focus+TL to launch Advanced Proton Torpedoes, which can be a fun, awesome damage dealer at the right time.

If there's a valid way of running the list without Garven, I'd prefer it, since it is a theme list. Garven Dreis wasn't part of the Bright Hope's escort (sadly for me!).

How about Squad Leader? Something to get an extra action for one of your ships that might need it.
