Kingsguard/Knight Deck

By Husemann, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

Now I've been kicking this idea around for a while with the new kingsguard characters coming out recently. Now that the Kingsguard agenda is out, I'm looking at just how effective the deck might be. Since all but The Hound are knights, I think Baratheon would be the house to go with for them. Using cards like Muster, Tourney For The Hand, and things like that also seem like they would help a lot.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Any suggestions or ideas on ways to be able to use kingsguard characters and the agenda in a deck that doesn't just suck?

Yes I thought about that kind of deck since the Core-set and the Knight of Flowers.

I guess you can build a deck that defends a lot and wins power through Domination phase (and, with the Agenda, through defense).

I'll let initiative to the opponent, defend and then strikes back with what is untapped, or wait for the Domination phase.

Decks that focus on defending challenges are notoriously hard to get to work. If an opponent sees that you can easily block an attack then he simply won't attack since he knows that attacking will only benefit you. The old Heir to the Iron Throne agenda was an similar example of this where opponents wouldn't attack if there was more benefit for you than them..

If I were to build a deck around the Kingsguard agenda I would focus on cards hide the fact that I can defend challenges. This would be things like standing characters after attackers are declared, removing attacking characters, boosting my defenders with events, using jumpers if there are any left etc.

Dude, you do realize i am building a kingsguard deck as well right? We will have to face off with it to see what happens I guess.

SO MANY CHOICES. : 0

Actually, I was gonna Stark/Kingsguard, but it's whatever.

Really?

Any particular strat with Stark? Or just going with Stark because your a Stark player at heart?

Little bit of both, the defensive part of the agenda would be best I think in Stark. Also the stark player at heart, although I think Lanni would be my second choice, I have like 3 deck ideas right now, and like 3 houses that could run each of them, so I'm working on deck lists for all of them. Will test them all out, see how they do, and then pick the best one

I tried a standard kingsguard deck a few weeks ago, i played Lannister because of the card draw & the intrigue icons which are lacking if you are playing a lot of kingsguard charachters in your deck and i felt that it´s a little more nedly to play the kingsguard in either a Baratheon, Lannister or Targ deck.

The deck was after some playing and tweaking nothing more than a fun deck, that´s mostly because the kingsguard keyword hasn´t much synergy today, even with some additional standard cards like Ser Arys Oakheart, Ser Boros Blount, White sword tower, take the white and kingsguard squire the deck had to few synergy. For LCG there is even less synergy, i think we need to see some more cards that actually work with the kingsguard keyword before a halfway competive kingsguard deck could be build.

I agree with Old Ben as far as joust as concerned, but I think the new agenda might be capable of supporting an LCG deck meant to be played in melee using the titles. Between the ability to defend unopposed challenges against titles you support and the ability to redirect challenges to yourself with the Crown Regent or the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, there are a lot ways to make yourself the defender so you can claim power from the title.

I agree, but also at the same time, you have 3 people to try and defend against as well, could be very detremental to your victory.
