I'm looking forward to Waves 7 and 8 in X-Wing, and whatever FFG comes up with in Waves 3+ in Armada. I have games that I've been playing for 30 years or more, so I'll stop buying when it stops being fun.
How many waves of new ships, and where is Armada going?
Maybe the new movies will give us a new Super Star Destroyer to argue about!
There's always TIE drones! I wouldn't be surprised if they appeared in the game in a box with some fighter carrier/squadron command ship with some ridiculously high command and squadron stats.
There's no way they could run out of ships, especially with incoming movies. Remember that there still was no mention of an Immobilizer 418 cruiser, which probably will hit wave 3. And even if, they can still make up new ones like the Raider. ![]()

Shhhh...not so loud. There are certain Luddites in these parts that will lynch you for talking like that. ![]()

Haha, that's possible!
but FFG's Disney-approved ship designs are more canon than EU and we have to accept that. And if it means I will get to use wedge-shaped Raider instead of a Tartan which I find ugly as my anti-fighter vessel then it's even better. The more pizza slices in my fleet the better - let the rebels have their patchwork, ugly fleets! ![]()
Although I yet have to see any original design of theirs, because Raider is nothing else than the Centurion battleship, just with TIE Interceptor vanes.

I am sooooo the opposite of everyone else. I play X-Wing and I try to have enough for both sides to play decent squads. So while I may not have as much as some people I still have quite a bit, either 2 or 4 of most things and occasionally even more. I'm considering a stopping point; hopefully where the game is well balanced and I can still carry everything in two bags; but there's always that next release that fixes that one ship. Scum, which I have no desire to play, has Auto-Thrusters which are awesome on Interceptors. Do I need them? Of course not but they are a great addition; does anyone want any Star Vipers?
If I get into Armada I'll want both sides again and I'll want to be able to field decent builds. But I'm not looking forward to endless expansions, upgrades, rule changes though upgrades, 20+ page rule book and 15+ page FAQ. And again I'm not overly thrilled by the Rouge expansion of mostly freighters in a fleet action game. Especially if it has cards that are really usable on the capital ships. ![]()
Someone said on this forum that Armada reminded them of the PC game Empire at War. Argh... don't tell me that, I love that game and this makes me want Armada even more but, and there's always a but, nevertheless or something like that. Does one of each expansion (so far) really make for decent builds? I've seen fleets with two gladiators so it makes you (me at least) wonder. Right now one of everything the MSRP is $448.59 including Wave 2 and that doesn't even get you the accessories.
The only way armada reminds anyone of Empire at War is the look, which that pulled off very very well (in space)
I also think we can expect them to pull more ships from there since we already have the Victory and AF mkii gracing the core set and wave 1 (though I hope the raider's taken the place of the uglier than sin imperial corvettes)
I also highly doubt the rogue expansion will have any ship relevant cards because squadrons are a completely different model type (and thus far, even in wave 1, have had zero upgrade cards related to them)

Oh, I wouldn't say that's the only way.
EaW also had the tendency for fighter engagements to be a gaggle of little furballs that get shoved out of the way of the big boys. And the sub-system damage in it has at least some superficial similarities to the crit system in Armada.
But yeah the aesthetic is certainly a strong visual reminder.

I'd say everything but the sub-system damage falls under the "looks" department ![]()
I really did enjoy that game and I don't think I'd be as excited about Armada if I had not played it first (I definitely would not have known that the Victory wasn't the star destroyer in the movies until they announced the ISD
) and I am hopeful they'll take more ships from it (seeing the AF Mk2 for Wave 1 made me very happy
)
And we still have plenty of ships to take (although some would be better ideas than others) such as the "artillery" ships (broadside cruiser), the Interdictor, the Accalmator, all the not yet introduced fighter squadrons (such as the ones already in x-wing miniatures, and the weird little tie scout) before we have to start looking for another well
I wish they took the B-wing from EAW, though. The Armada variant doesn't seem to hold a candle to it ![]()
It's realy simple, as long as it keeps generating profit, there will be new waves. Or in other words, as long as people keep buying the stuff, new stuff will be produced.
So how many ships are in the actual movies or what is concidered "canon" and EU and what not has very litle to do with it.
Loving the game so far an I have every intention to keep throwing my money at it for years to come, as I have done with X-Wing.
Edited by SmugglerA thought occurs:
the Squadron pack contents revealed for Wave 1 contain a single generic squadron card and a single character squadron (not counting Luke and Howlie from the coreset)
so...how are we going to get other character squadron cards distributed to us?

FFG has stuck pretty well to an expansion concept where the contents of each expansion are playable directly out of the box by themselves. They've also specifically renounced card-only expansions for X-Wing for business reasons, so I doubt they'd do any for Armada. So if we were to get new characters, they'd come with at least one copy of that squadron. Just going off of existing X-Wing releases, a Rebel Alliance/New Republic expansion could have two E-Wing and two Z-95 squadrons with characters, and then one of each of the existing squadrons with new characters. Same for the Galactic Empire/Imperial Remnant with Defenders and Phantoms.
I wouldn't expect this for a while, though, or possibly even ever, given the emphasis on capital ships.

I doubt that we will see a large number of unique squadrons, which makes sense as that isn't Armada's focus.
I also agree that if it sells, they will make more. I know I will buy it, lots of it. So hit me with waves, and anything I don't like I will just not buy as many lol.

I don't think squadrons can derail the focus of the game unless they get upgrades that aren't character versions
Problem is it'd suck to buy another pack of the same squadron
. The only reasonable way to get the likes of Horton or lando (apart from card packs) would be to sell xwing reb transport type boxes (only the big ship would be relevant
)
I guess it'd also be easier to just include big names as officers or crew, though. I know chewie or r2 could make great engineering teams ![]()
But if I see c3po again...so help me
