Death Star baby. Anyone think FFG will release in a future wave. Could be balanced on Rebel side by a scale Yavin IV.
Why the heck would anyone want an SSD anyway if they could get a "fully operational battle station"?

I thought this was going to be something cool like talking about the XQ platforms or the Golan Space Defense platforms.
But instead this is about trolling the pro SSD crowd.
hmm.
Well, I'm all for custom XQ platforms showing up. Was one of my favorite vehicles and would love to see an official station model for Armada. Kinda wishing I had more time for crafting things since I have the plasticard... just need to find out where those Attack Wing pegs went so I can make a custom base!
Wow, you just went passed Tarkining and straight to a glorified Tarkin Doctrine Smack Down.
Didn't know there were Trolls in space. ![]()
I'm all for stations and platforms and the wide variety of EU ships Hound.
The point is scale _is_ relative. Right now it's stretched. Push it further and it becomes broken and silly.
If you take the Victory as scale, to get an SSD relative to the broken scale of Vic to Vette, your looking at a 22" model. At that point it's self-explanatory. It becomes broken. Speed, yaw, shields, hull, everthing. Scale is already off.
Please FFG and SSD supporters..... Don't make it silly.
Edited by Son0fGunI think this already happened, check the FFG death star assault mat.

Just need to make up some house rules, like:
1) On turns 2, 4 and 6, Imperial players select one medium or large rebel model that is more than 5 distance away from all imperial models and remove it from play area.
2) If rebel player moves Luke squadron off imperial side of game area, rebel player wins.

According to those house rules, did Rebels then win as depicted by FFG's Armada Epic tease? (And why is Luke all the sudden way over scaled?
I don't think you can equate the Super Star Destroyer and Death Star when it comes to introducing them to this game and the scale differences. The Death Star is a nearly immobile battlestation which, discarding the thousands of turbolaser cannons, is armed with a weapon so powerful the only way it can be simulated is to pick a ship and remove it from the board when it activates.
Putting aside the fact that it would be comically under-scaled (compared to the SSD), who would want to put this playing piece on the board? Especially when it isn't even a capital ship. It's a strategic scale weapon that has as much relevance in Armada as Imperial Star Destroyers do in X-Wing. It does not fit. It doesn't fit the scope or balance of this game.
But saying Super Star Destroyers absolutely can't fit into Armada is like saying the Millenium Falcon is disqualified because it has more than one pilot and is bigger than a snubfighter.
What could a SSD playing piece introduce that would be considered overpowered? A torrent of dice, being tough to kill, commanding all the fighters? Surely with that high of a point count the Rebels can field a fleet of their own, attack many more times in a turn, and deplete the SSD's defense tokens a lot faster than the SSD could with returning fire. After all, that's how the Rebels are apparently winning in the intro scenario when they're outmatched by a heavier Imperial ship.
But if this is really veering into Super Star Destroyer talk it needs to be merged with the SSD discussion thread.
Otherwise, let's talk about some other space stations without literally tarkining this thread.
New Objective "Death star" (imperial only)
Setup: Normal
Special rules: After round one, the first player may target an enemy Medium or Large ship and destroy it. If the second player moves a squadron off the board on the other side, roll one BLACK die, if the result is a CRITICAL the second player wins

Oh yes you did Beatty, you're smarter than that!

The movies would have never done that.
But that is an extremely gimmicky way to take out a nondestructible object. Next you will say a squadron is going to take out an epic ship on a kamikaze run.New Objective "Death star" (imperial only)

What was that Admiral Piet? I couldn't hear you over the sound of you dying.

Seeing as how the rebels only committed assult forces to the death star(s) when they believed they could do exactly that, I wouldn't think it's too awful. Granted I'm really not interested in playing this level of "epic" play.

Spartan Games has a space station piece of terrain along with some asteroids covered in buildings for their Firestorm Armada. If the scale would be right-ish you could use it and their other space terrain here.
there also was some kickstarter basically doing the same thing lately as far as I remember, so you could just add some stats (there already is the modular station idea thread here) and enjoy. ^^
No... I mean, I wanted one of these:

Still want the Golan
