How fast compared to X Wing?

By Lord Ashram, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey guys,

Just checking... How fast does a game of Armada take compared to X Wing? Same rough length?

I would say a 300 point game takes about 90 mins to 2 hours. Once everyone knows the rules the point increases actually don't take much more time, at least in my experience.

Don't forget, the turn limit will always help keep the time down. Even with a billion ships, 6 moves is 6 moves.

Tournament times are 90 minutes at 180 points, 120 minutes at 300 points and 150 minutes at 400 points.

Like X-Wing's tournament time of 75 minutes, the time limits are a good guide on when you can expect to be about done with a game of that size if people play in a concentrated and timely fashion.
YMMW of course in a more casual atmosphere with lots of smoke, chat and beer breaks.

Although, with two competent players who know the rules, I would expect you can get the game time to right in between 60-75 minutes.

One of the reasons it is taking longer than standard X-Wing games is because the game is new and players don't always have every rule committed to memory yet. I'd estimate that it will still take longer than typical X-Wing games, but not too too long.

I also expect that in the future, once we have more SHIPS to choose from, that hopefully builds will involve less squadrons. I feel like Squadrons end up taking more time than they should. For example if you play the core set, the imperial player has only 1 ship to move, but 6 squadrons, so the vast majority of his time is spent moving TIE fighters, adjusting their dials and their activatiosn switches, etc. I'd rather rock 3 star destroyers and maybe only 2 squadrons of TIEs. something like that.

If it weren't for being able to pre-measure, the rounds would last forever :P

I don't think that Squadrons take longer to resolve except in two instances: the goddang distance tool and rotating the base to display health values, all while the squadrons are tightly packed together. It's a nightmare

This. I've had 100 point games of X-wing last +2 hours against newer opponents.
