Dino Update

By All Shields Forward, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Yup! And I was like Oh please god no, let's not have the good dinosaurs vs the genespliced evil dinosaur!*

On the other hand: I wish I had an attack pack of friendly raptors!

I'm worried too that it'll be good dinos vs genetically modified evil dino. But I'll be happy if I get dino carnage non-the-less.

*And yes, I was stalking it trough the bushes like that scene from JP and had to restrain myself from saying "Clever girl..." :D

I used to work at a zoo. We had Rhinos delivered at 3am one day. They were transported in a semi in two HUGE crates made of steel and hardcore reinforcements, with tiny barred windows in them. They lowered the crates down one at a time and butted them up to the sliding door on the Rhino "barn". It was literally just like the scene from JP. They even had every rifle out that the zoo owned with some heavy heavy sedatives for worst case scenario.

Either for the worst case scenario or the after-party.

yeah with that scene from JP, I'm Always wondering why they didn't use a crane to lift the crate over the walls of the raptor paddock or if not use a frikkin' forklift to push the crate, rather than having a bunch of dudes in hard hats hauling on that thing and ending up as raptor-lunch. Sigh... with lack of common sense like that it's no wonder it took them 3 movies before the park was fully operational ;)

Ok let's make up some more fake dinos!

Tyrannosaurus Imperator (like, Rex, but bigger)

Allophosaurus: Allosaurus + Dilophosaurus (Can you immagine the amount of toxic spit this thing would produce? :D )

Spinonychus Rex: Spinosaurus + Dinonychus* + T-Rex = ULTIMATE PREDATOR!

Kentroraptor: "The Shrike": Velociraptor + Kentrosaurus (the spikier cousin of the stegosaurus) All spikes and fangs!

Ankyloceratops: Ankylosaurus + tryceratops (I just want to hug one! :D )

*They are like raptors but better :)

They even had every rifle out that the zoo owned with some heavy heavy sedatives for worst case scenario.

Heh standard operating procedure. Many if not most zoos have shoot teams on standby just in case . Sometimes SOP goes wrong to hilarious results. At one zoo, who will not be named, had a radio code when any animal classified as dangerous escaped, it activates the shoot team. The shoot team is armed with tranqs and shotguns as a last resort. So this one day, a keeper was working in the reptile house moving a tarantula from case to another when they accidentally dropped the case. The incident is immediately called in, but since the tarantula was poisonous and classified as dangerous, the SOP's kick in. The park is evacuated and the shoot team is deployed.... for a spider. Meanwhile the keeper using some gloves picks up the tarantula and places it in its new home.

^ Awesome!

Shoot team leader: "Carefull men, it has eight legs!"

Team member A: "Awww jeez, look at the size of that thing!"

Team member B: "And it's poisonous! That's it! Game over man! Game over!"

Team member C: "Screw the tranqs, switch to shotguns! Weapons live! Ready? Aim! Fi-"

Zoo keeper: *calmly picks up spider and puts it in its habitat*

Spinonychus Rex: Spinosaurus + Dinonychus* + T-Rex = ULTIMATE PREDATOR!

I love this concept, and want to ride one into battle.

Stegodocus = Stegosaurus + Diplodocus

Trooclonius = Troodon + Monoclonius

Protodon = Protoceratops + Pteranadon

Tyranncoatlus = Tyrannosaurus + Quetzalcoatlus (because apparently T Rex isn't badass enough)

Archaedon = Archaeopteryx + Iguanadon

Paryonyx = Baryonyx + Parasaurolophus

Styracognathus = Styracosaurus + Compsognathus

Brilliant.

Are we past simply posting our favourite dinos; must they all be hybrids now?

Brachiosaurus was my first love, always will be.

But then I learned about Styracosaurus, and that was my last favourite before I grew away from dino-love.

I love all of them, bonus points if they featured in the dinobots (Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Diplodocus and ptranodon -wich is a flying reptile, but that's ok, Swoop always was my least favorite dinobot)

I was lucky to be a child while Beast Wars was on.

Heh, another cartoon that gives paleontologists nightmares. :D

Dinobot and Inferno were awesome! (And waspinator was hilarious!)

Dino related toys had a bit of a boom in the 80 (Zoids, Dino riders, etc...) Especially with dino riders they tried to make the dinosaur figures acurate.

They also had a Brontosaurus.

Hey, guess what? We're back on topic! :D

What about the Dino cassettes that the original Soundwave used to launch. They could hide out in people's Sony Walkmans and attack them when they go jogging listening to Eye of the Tiger. You guys still have Walkmans, right?

I was lucky to be a child while Beast Wars was on.

I used to wake up early to watch Beast Wars and then fall back asleep before school. I never saw how it ended though. :angry:

Yeah I never saw those other casette bots (Slugfest/Overkill) in stores as a kid. I stuck with soundwave's big five: Buzzsaw, Lazerbeak, Ravage, Rumble and Frenzy. (Those two are awesome! They take Devastator apart in the movie!*)

Nope sadly the days of the walkman are gone... :) (But we did get a MP3-player Soundwave)

Speaking of stuff chaped like casettes: remember/ ever heard of "Flipsiders"? They were minature boardgames you could fold up into "casette mode" and take 'em with you. Very cool stuff. (Like everything in the 80's :D )

That reminds me: Even Masters of the Universe added dinosaurs towards the end of the line!

And Kenner made "Bone Age": Dinosaur skeletons that transformed into weird vehicles for their cavemen crew.

Michael Bay apparently hates my childhood. Transformers, TMNT... sigh

The only time my wife has ever seen me cry...

You guys still have Walkmans, right?

I cried when mine died.

Aaaagh those Bayformer movies! TMNT was OK, mostly because Bay knew the fans would actualy lynch him if he went ahead witj that alien-turtles idea of his, and the lack of Shia la-buttf*ck. (God I hate that guy!) Movie of course had massive plotholes but atleast it got the characters of the turtles right. Unlike with Optimus "faceripper" Prime and Hugo-Weaving-Bot (AKA Megatron) from transformers!

And once you have seen the TMNT anime (not the cartoon, the 4 episode anime!) you realise things could have gotten worse...
