Only 2 career books to go! Speculation time!!! (Again)

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

End of the career and species-line guesses?

Mechanic

- Shipwright

- Scavenger

- Weapon smith

Long shot

- Cloner

- Miner

Species

- Jawa

- Verpine

- Ugnaught

Bountyhunter

- Repoman (catch that ship)

- Reporter (catch that scoop)

- Skiptracer (catch 'm alive)

Long shot

- Gladiator (Catch that trophy)

- Pirate hunter (catch that... Well, pirate)

Species

- Ubese

- Clawdite

- Gamorrean (if there is a gladiator career only)

I'm still hoping for a Technician spec focused on enhancing and repairing droids.

Tech

Droid Smith- Fix em, build em, make a weapon drone, surveillance drone, etc

Bio-Tech/Cloner - Pretty obvious choice since most of the electronic tech is done, need squishy tech.

Shipwright - Upgrades to ships, talents to buff a ship/vehicle in combat etc.

Jawa

Ugnaught

Kaminoan

BH

Skip Tracer - Recover bounties on stuff

Trapper - Recover bounties on people alive

Private Eye - Recover bounties on information.

Devorian

Zygerrian

Noghri

Yeah, private eye is a good call as well. I could see that work along the lines of that reporter too.

I hope Jawa and Ubese are in them. Two of my favs fight there.

I fully expect Rigger to be with the Mechanics.

I could see that - or someone with several of the same talents. That might be our 'shipwright'. I'd definitely like to see Investigator as a bounty hunter specialization.

I'm still hoping for a pirate or privateer spec in Bounty Hunter

I wouldn't be surprised if Mandalorian human was in the Bounty Hunter book. As for Technician, I assume Rigger will be one of the specs.

For the bounty hunter I still want:

Repo - recovering ships and droids

Info chant - finding and selling information

Slaver - focused on taking down alive creatures and people

Zygerians would be a good species.

Slaver... I hope that will never happen.

Slaver... I hope that will never happen.

It won't.

It doesn't fit the pattern or theme of the rest of the specializations. They may have some sort of people-centric specialization but it won't be called slaver. The current three specializations for Bounty Hunter all focus on how they acquire their bounty heads.

Assassin kills them and brings them in dead.

Gadgeteer uses technology to hunt.

Survivalist hunts for people in the wilderness.

I suspect Samophlange is right about Info Chant or some similar information gathering character. Otherwise, I would suggest Infiltrator from AoR and a new specialization. Heck if I can figure out what other method of bounty hunting isn't there.

...but I doubt very seriously that FFG will have a player character specialization called Slaver.

I'd definitely like to see Investigator as a bounty hunter specialization.

Yeah, it is safe to say I'd play this... Whether it is a private eye or a 50's reporter from a film noir it would just bring so much diversity to the career... Imagine being able to play a J. J. Gittes type character in a Star Wars RPG. I would love that so much!

I expect one BH spec will be melee centric, another I expect will be either focused on a spaceship or vehicles or more mechanically/traps inclined.

For Technician I expect something that shares some of the Rigger talents though hopefully a different specialization itself, something like an Infochant, and something along the lines of a Scavenger or dealing with cybernetics or droids.

I always love posting the slaver specialization idea... I find it humorous. Not the actual idea of slavery, which I bet most people allow to happen in their daily lives, but that it it so much worse than playin a murderer for higher or drug runner.

I know the history of slavery. It is a vile thing. Part of the reason I became vegan, because I can't stand the idea of a sentient being used in such a way. But it does have a place in the Star Wars universe. Droids are slaves. So many twi'lek are slaves, the zygerrians were renowned slavers. The empire deals with slaves. It is horrible I don't deny that.

The thing is this is a game. There are horrible things. There are many things I am not that I have played, whether at the table or stage and screen. I'm not a Romulan, but I've played one. I'm not a woman I've played one. I'm not a Jedi, hutt, and so on. I've played murderers and thieves, Paladins and priests all things I'm not. I've played a Nazi (on stage) and as a GM, and that is some of the most deplorable people. But I don't subscribe to that philosophy. Never have, never will. But I can see the difference between the fictional and the actual.

There is a good chance that this specialization will not have the name I suggest. Perhaps it will. Perhaps it should. Some stories should be told. Not to degrade an individual but to educate another. The story potential is there for the vile slaver as much as the one who renounces his ways.

Be open minded, as well as mindful of the connotations and don't let playing a character define who you are. Unless you suspect that every actor on game of thrones has done horrible, horrible things.

Cool, so what Vegan powers do you have? :D

I'm still hoping for a pirate or privateer spec in Bounty Hunter

That's a distinct option. The only thing that makes me lean against it is that it should be a sort of leadership type spec and I think of BHs as loners, or very small groups. Could've been an option for Smuggler I think, but such is life.

Oh, please enough with the "be open-minded" schtick. If there is one closed off one track bad guy idea for a specialization it is this one.

You can be an immoral prick in any of the specs thusfar, but you can be a moral Bounty Hunter. You can be a moral Enforcer. Heck, you can be a moral politico. You can never be a moral slaver. Ever.

There is your difference.

If we see a slaver it will probably be in the form of droid master in the technician book.

I'm expecting Rigger from stay on target to be re-printed in the technician book.

This a given I think, some of the Rigger talents that only appear once are still listed as ranked.

Never say never. "Slaver" may be a harsh word, so let's call them "Labor Merchant" instead. There could certainly be scenarios where a particular group of people would opt for becoming servants to wealthy citizens rather than a more dreadful alternative, and there could certainly be a well-intentioned businessman who is glad to help them out while making himself a bit of a profit at the same time.

That said, I wouldn't expect to see a specialization along these lines.

I remain curious to see what (if anything) they do with the whole "inventing" thing that's been mentioned here and there in the existing books.

Personally my hope is that the book titles are as followed:

Edge of the Empire: Hold Together

Edge of the Empire: No Disintergrations

Technician
- Cyborg (Or some cybernetic related class mechanic/medic mix)

- Salvager (Similar to archaeologist with specialty in using older technologies)

- Rigger (perhaps more like a swoop bike Rigger than that of AoR)

Rigger seems a reasonable assumption... I'd put my money on that.
