Only 2 career books to go! Speculation time!!! (Again)

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

As far as the BH book is concerned, I just want the attachment options. Considering all the snazzy crap Jango and Boba were packing in their armor, bolas and flamethrowers and whatnot, it would be nice to have options for that. But no Mando Human. It's a lifestyle not a race. I would rather have a 'replace your characters special widgets with Mando widgets' that goes across all the possible options, but I know that would be difficult, and certain aliens would have to options due to racial things, but it would still be good in my view.

How about a Mando universal career?

That would work better for him I would think. That said, I fully expect them to use the template from SoF and make them a variant human race.

It really wouldn't. Let's be clear here, I like Mandalorians just fine, but they are not so special that they can't be represented by current career options.

Jon D the same can be said for Corellian Humans, yet FFG created a custom race. I see nothing wrong with doing it for mandalorians too.

The Mandalorians have such a big fanbase it would be strange if there won't be a seperate species for them.
And it would be more than fitting for a BH book. Together with Ubese.

I'm not a huge fan of that either.

Since the new canon, the Mandalorians as we knew them as are no longer applicable. So there's no "Mandalore", there's no warrior culture, there's just a planet, with a government, and some dudes who wore cool armor (which aren't even made from a unique iron to that world anymore). So please put these Mandalorian ideas to bed, ain't gonna happen, Clone Wars eliminated the fiction we grew up with.

BH Specializations (and the book absolutely needs to be called "No Disintegrations" I want to see:

Pirate (more space stuff, good at dealing System Strain)

Something for melee (like a marauder, if a marauder were geared towards dealing Strain damage)

Something "talky", with knowledge bonuses and investigation

I don't really have a preference, but the species that make sense to me in a bounty hunter book are:

Togorian or Dug or Defel or Kaleesh or Kyuzo (as Agility options)

Dashade or Gen'Dai or Feorin (as Brawn options)

Defel or Ubese (as Cunning options)

I'd also expect information on the business side of bounty hunting, and coverage on the guilds.

For a Technician Book, I'd like to see the following:

Specs,

Something that's particularly good at dealing with droids (as friends and enemies) and gets a droid "pet".

Something geared toward ground combat, similar to the Gadgeteer, call it a "Prototyper", give it a good combat skill, like Ranged Heavy, and let it cause all sorts of havoc with setback dice to enemies.

Something geared toward space ship combat support, something particularly good at not damaging other ships/vehicles, but scrambling communications, hacking Hyperdrives, and boosting the dice pools of other PCs in a ship.

Or possibly something not really "tech" related (but it's a Technician book, I know), but something more along the lines of a "scientist" who can serve another sort of doctor role, but for combat, would deal with like chemicals and mad scientist stuff. And since EotE is all about that scum and villainy, why the heck not the ability to manufacture chems (and drugs, for smuggling). Haha, let them do something silly like a Juicer from Rifts via chemical augmentation.

For species:

I'm totally bummed if we don't get Jawas, in fact I call shenanigans if we don't get them.

Verpine is a hot one

Sluissi are lesser known but should be awesome with ships

And if we must, Ugnauts (I mean they make sense, but I'd rather have Sluissi)

If FFG decides to give us a scientist type of technician, we've got Kaminoans (Attack of the Clones) and Faust ("BLUE SHADOW WYYYRUS", in Clone Wars) from canon.

I want to see wacky gadgets. I want to see detailed computer stuff (how does the holonet work? can we hack it? how? stats for computer viruses please). I want to see Jawa sandcrawlers. I want to see cybernetics. I want to see details on stuff like refueling ships (like cost), retrofitting, laboratories/workshops

I don't see a pirate spec so much as a privateer or corsair one in the BH book to fill the space role. An investigator type including some social ability.

Privateer seems more of an AoR specialization. I'd anticipate Pirate Hunter in a BH book.

Alliance privateers would blur the line between AOR and EOE IMO but they were not the only group to use Privateers in this era. Some Imperial allied corporations used them as some of the smaller Imperial allied states as well.

I like the name "Corsair." It's defined as both a privateer and pirate, so it would fit the line that bounty hunters walk between morally good and morally grey. However, I'm bad at thinking of names on my own.

I like corsair, good name.

"Talky" bounty hunter? All of a sudden I really feel like watching the negotiator...

Michael Weston from Burn Notice too.

There are lots of suggestions of Re-Printing the Rigger for the tech, and calling on the fact there are 1 off ranked talents as evidence this will happen. I think people have forgotten that a PC can't take the same spec twice, even from different careers.

If the Rigger was to be re-printed then those talents would still only be available once to any individual PC.

Therefore I think its actually more likely we will see a new Spec that uses some of the same skills.

i like the cyborg/droid themed spec myself as well as the Cloner, that sounds cool

If the Rigger was to be re-printed then those talents would still only be available once to any individual PC.

Except it's happened a few times already. Pilot, Driver, Mechanic, Scout, and Slicer have all repeated. Given the area of expertise, my guess is that Rigger will also be repeated, as it's immediately relevant to the career in question.

It's certainly possible that we'll get three new specs, but this late in the career book cycle, I think it's more likely we'll see two new specs and one repeat.

Yeah, the ranked talents in the Rigger Spec just scream "we're doing something similar for Technician" to me

It would help avoiding an out of career surcharge, so that would begood right there.

I think cloner would be a bit ambitious for a tech, but I would love, just love to see a salvager, knowing how to turn junk tech into gold and sell it.

They have done it before yes. Problem is you can't take the same spec twice. So it is more likely we will get another spec that will give us some more of those ranked talents that only appear once in the rigger tree. That way one would have a way to get more ranks in those ranked talents.

Im imagining a spec that focuses on boosting Planetary vehicles specifically, i don't like the name pod racer, but the character focuses on their swoop/air speeder. larger project is not on the tree, but Signature Vehicle is, so taking rigger won't give 2 sig vehicles. they would need to be careful of power creep, especially with larger project, but as i said, if the spec is focused on small ground or air vehicles then it shouldn't have any ranks of that in it. Tuned manoeuvring thrusters could get out of hand on a vehicle that starts with good handling too, 3 or 4 ranks and someone starts throwing 6 or more blue when piloting!

There is also nothing in the Rigger tree to increase the speed of the Sig Vehicle, that would fit well with the swoop/airspeed racer, like Full Throttle but permanent, and probably a 20 or 25 xp talent.

in the past the have taken the Politico Tree and split it in half to create the Charmer and the Agitator. I'm suggesting the rigger is able to focus their abilities on ground, air and space vehicles all the way up to the smallest capital ships. What if they then made a spec that focused on the tiny stuff, and possibly another that focuses on the big Cap ships?

How about Driver? The career that came out in the first suplement book....

I just really, really, really want the Devaronians to show up in one of these upcoming sourcebooks.

Personally I really doubt they would put in rigger for the Tech splat book. From what I've seen they have only introduced new specs for the career specialization books, and from a personal point of view I hope they don't do it because I'd rather spend the extra 10 XP for Rigger and have 3 completely new Tech specializations. But that's just me

I'll place my bets on the species for the Tech book to be Jawa, Ugnaught, and Verpine or Sluissi.

Verpine are in strongholds of resistance. So probably not in tech book.

Except they do reprint between various lines.
