Is there any rules to play the game with only 2 Players?

Note that you don't have to use the rest of the Shattered Ascension variants to use the 2-player game.

There was a 16 player tournament played on the wiki all 1vs1.

Most people though the races balanced out pretty well.

We use the following two-player variant:

* remove 10 tiles from the game (4 empty systems, 1 asteroid field and 5 random tiles)

* Use the 2 player galaxy as defined in the TI2 rulebook page 5
(Yes, the second edition rule book, available on BGG at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/fileinfo.php?fileid=16110 )

* Do not use the "Initiative" Strategy Card, so swap the Speaker token between game rounds, and use only 7 Strategy Cards in total

* Each player selects 2 Strategy Cards, the three remaining ones get Bonus tokens like in the 5-player game

* Use the "Age of Empires" Variant (official variant described in the TI3 rulebook), together with the "Imperial II" strategy card (this is also called the "Ancient Throne" variant).

The "Imperial II" strategy card was included in the "Shattered Empire" expansion, but is also available online in the support section of FFG's website of TI3.

This variant works very well for us, and adheres to the standard TI3 rules.
