Finn Slippery/Monster Movement Question.

By Trevorfrost, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

First off I would like to say I love Finn Edwards, he's my favorite new investigator cause of his high speed, money, and skills.

Now that is out of the way. I came across a situation that I wasn't 100% sure of when using his slippery ability.

Finn's ability allows him to move as if he were a moon monster. I was sitting on an aquatic enviroment, when the moon symbol came up and would allow Finn to move.

Also at that time an aquatic monster at a different location would be allowed to move to Finn if he is sitting in the Aquatic location.

I guess this is about whether or not monster movement and Finn's ability are simultanious and whether or not an aquatic monster would move to the space because Finn was there even though he won't be there if Finn uses his ability?

Good question. It was discussed in another thread, but no consensus was reached.

Id play it so: if Finn moves, the monster stays, if he doesnt, it moves. So, Id give his player the option to move first. Its something we need clarity on though. Is this in the submitted list of questions?

The other possibility is that the aquatic monster moves and then Finn slips away from it. Having Finn's slippery movement occur after the monsters move would take care of a lot of these questions. Flyers and aquatic monsters move onto his location, then he slips away. Moon monsters on his location stay where they are, looking for him, then he slips away. If he moves first, he's vulnerable to flyers, and moon monsters would essentially chase him down the street.

I like that interpretation its seems to fit with what the power was designed for, to allow him to slip away from monsters...

Yes and it makes sense that flyers in the sky can spot him...but not that moon monsters chase him...hmmm it seems I may change my mind and go with after...dammit, this guys slippery indeed!

Here's a fun fact that I just realized. This is Finn's ability:

Slippery - Mythos: When moon monsters move, Finn may choose to move as a normal moon monster. He does not need to make any Evade checks when doing so.

If interpreted literally, this ability could never be used. Monsters never move off of a space that is occupied by an investigator. Since Finn is an investigator, he could never "move as a normal moon monster" to move off of a space that he himself occupies.

What if he sees Carolyn Fern and has a few sessions to sort out his issues gran_risa.gif ?

"Doctor, doctor, help. I want to move, but I can't move off a space I occupy myself."

I always play that all the monsters move, then Finn moves last. Then the mythos language on the card takes effect. Whcih could possibly dump a couple of monsters onto the location where Finn just moved.
