Battlefoam has Armada Kits

By robertleegrant, in Star Wars: Armada

Thanks for posting this. I have been trying to figure out how I want to deal with Storage. Right now, the box is fine, but over time and waves.....It just won't do.

Link is broke for me. But at least I know it is right around the corner.

This one should work.

[edit] Nope. They have some sort of link blocker. Anyways, there is one double-decker for the P.A.C.K system and one for the Armada Box. The Box version just has space for the box contents. The other has some extra slots - there is space for 22 fighter stands and two extra small based ships. As a somewhat odd choice, the only Medium based ship that will fit is the VSD (and possibly the Assault Frigate)

Hmmm... those trays are for the core set only.

Well at least the shapes are there if I want to start designing my own.

It is some strange choices, as far as the trays just for the Armada BOX or the PACK System. I would be more excited to see trays with more capital ship choices. Of course, this will all change over time.

I have never bothered with the PACK System before. I may have to get into them.

When they are cutting trays to fit, they have to wait on getting their hands on a model to make sur of the measurements. And since they don't have a license with FFG, they have to wait.

The custom foam creator doesn't appear to have been updated yet. I'm waiting for Wave 1, but it would be nice to be able to see sizes.

I was thinkning along similar lines. I have another VSD coming, and with the battlefoam core set, no spot for it. Before I customize a foam, though, I think I might wait for Wave I. I expect a few weeks after Wave I hits, they will have foam kits for the assault frigates, goliaths, and others.

Pricey, but I am thinking about the 150 XL bag, and just buy it empty. Then, fill it with foam as they waves come out.

I would like to grab one of these but the foam is cut in such an arbitrary way for the core sets design only, that buying it would end up being pretty short lived imo.

I would have the box, and the sweet foam cut out insert, but as soon as I have even 1 new addition to the game a new solution will need to be sought after. This is only exacerbated when someone owns 2 core sets.

I feel like waiting until they start doing more generic trays would be a better choice.

I have a 1520XL, and despite the size, it fills up fast. Having the zipper on top means you can attach another bag to it for more storage.

If you're buying from BF for the first time, try and wait til black friday. Those are their best sales. Any way you do it, prepare for sticker shock when you look at shipping costs, it can be a serious precentage. Try buying from other online retailers or FLGS for better prices.

The space for the upgrade cards and damage cards doesn't seem like it will fit sleeved cards.

Good enough for now but seems better to wait until the expansions show up so you can get storage for more than just the core set.

Not sure that is the best use of space for squadrons. Does each squadron really need it's own slot for fully assembled transport?

I've gotten all of my BF bags, and some of my foam, from Noble Knight games. They're usually about 10% off BF's retail price.

Yeah, I've looked at NK before. The best "discount" in price is actually the difference in shipping costs.

I have a Battle Foam bag for Flames of War. Fantastic. I got 25% on 4th of July through BF website. I plan to wait till Wave 1 comes out and we can make custom trays.

The bags are expensive. They seem too expensive. I know they are specially made, but it really comes down to what one needs for transportation. If one gets out, alot, and wants to make just one simple and convenient trip from the car, the bags are perfect.

The boxes though - are cheap. The boxes could be stuffed into backpacks or whatever, even tied together. I will probably buy the boxes. Since I have some powertools, I will probably then build a roadcase for it. I am not sure how well the bags will still themselves. The bags are good for travel, but I am unsure for long term storage with other things. Roadcases solve any long term on closet storage problem (I have lots of things that I have to stack on top of each other).

I'd definitely want a customized foam set, just to keep factions separate.

Good advice about Noble Knight Games, above. I'm not sure I understand why Battlefoam is charging so much for shipping. It looks like they are only using fed ex or parcel post? Why no UPS?

So, Battlefoam wanted to sell me the 1520XL bag for $159.99 plus $26.91 to ship Fed Ex. Total $189.90 and I didn't buy a tray yet, that's empty.

I ended up purchasing from Noble Knight.com. They had the empty1520 XL for $143.95 plus shipping Fed Ex Ground for $9.95. Total was $153.90, a savings of $33.00?

I will wait until I see what kinds of custom trays are released before I buy from BF. I did buy bags back in the day for my Warmachine collections, and those are great. I just don't know if I want to go the same way with Armada.

It's too bad they only do P.A.C.K insets, they won't fit my Warmachine bag :(

I'm sure you can do custom cuts, with warmachine foam.

Once the templates get added to the custom foam creator, you should be able to make trays.

No thanks, I'd rather shop at walmart or amazon than support THAT company...

Yeah. I'm waiting on them to land on the custom cutter and the. Fit them for my Warmachine bags. The Paint bag should be perfect for a fleet.
