Cards that can work as well as SRU

By Roxas2, in Hollow Bastion

Well to help out new players who for whatever reason can not seem to pull the super rare exclusive, I mean even i pull SRU at a slow rate. What cards have you personally found to help instead of the SRU?

2 boxes in a row... no SRU... well 3 if you count set 1 which doesn't have any anyway...

I find that many cards can be useful.

Tidus: With so many Level 0s this set, he is pretty useful, especially with Alice. He basically saved me every time I went up against an Alice.

Moogle: The powerful Lv 4s such as Sephiroth, Cloud, Leon, Goofy, and Donald are hard to get out without lower leveled cards. This card helps to bring them out easily.

Stopra: Basically a redraw after you've used up your cards, really good for getting through a deck quickly.

Oblivion: If you can't afford an Ultima Weapon, this is the second strongest attack card. Very useful.

Soul Eater: Fast damage to your opponent if you win a challenge. (Riku exclusive)

Stealth Sneak: If you play this against a Dark Player, it is a forced escape

Destiny Islands: Great for chaining searches. (Ex. DI > King > Jasmine > Aladdin Lv 4 > Genie Lv 4 > Genie Lv 1)

Alice: Great friend killer. Good for if you have a lot of cards you can easily discard like Friends that give negative support or friends that help your opponent (Jack) or even Magic/Friends.

There are many more, but any card can be used as well as an SRU. It all comes back to strategy. With a good strategy, you can take what are considered the worst possible cards and make them great.

Yeah I know what you're saying.

I actually find Leon helpful if you play 2x Simba lvl 3 and Simba lvl 4 I mean he can cast lvl 3 and stay on the field. Plus if you really need him for battle, he has 8 support.

I love how Card_Breaker mentioned a bunch of cards that work WELL with SRU's (and states as such) and mentions like 2 that are poor man options (oblivion and Sneak).

Some great budget cards are (imo):

Bambi: Great power at a low cost, Bambi lvl 1 is a great uncommon from set 3 and Bambi lvl 3 is great from set 1. all around good cards.

Phil: Great against magic, low level and a brings good beats. Uncommon and very good.

Barrel Spider: this is possibly my favorite common and with good reason, works great with both heartless combo's and on it's own. It's 10 means they have to use something on it, and losing an HP can really help the aggro cause.

Atlantica lvl 2: can prove useful to ansem players for those who dont have the doubling worlds. good anti soul eater card.

Traverse Town lvl 3: easily placed into a WR deck and for those who can't get their hands on a End of the World.

Mayor/Jack: Good for those like Beast/Herc and want search power.

Owl: The only rare on the list but he's great against magic/friends and those who can't quite get enough simba's he might be a welcome edition to any deck.

I find the following to be helpful

Kairi - You can search her with Destiny Island and she can cast a lvl 2 Magic Friend. Plus you can use her to knock off that annoying Wizard/ Dragon Maleficent off the field if it's a Dark Deck.

Stealth Sneak- This card in every term of the word WRECKS Dark Racers. Plus WR's have to knock with Pan/Dumbo. If you get lucky enough to drop it on an Agrro Deck, Stopra is off the table.

Shadow - This card is mainly for the Dark Deck, It combo's well with Stealth Sneak by raising it's power above 1 so a Dumbo is most lucky not going to work.

Invisible - Combo'd with Phil, It becomes a Sneak with 12 power.

Tidus- KILLS OWL and other lvl 0 cards that can cause problems later one (ie Sebastion, Duck Bros, Another Tidus)

Fariy Godmother- 4 magic and can search out a magic friend like simba, bambi, dumbo, etc.

Lol, had to say the thing that helps most when countering Stealth Sneak.

Beast: Best way to counter a stealth sneak (combo with Jack allows use of lower level beast)

Though now I think we are going into the good card zone... not SRU worthy zone...

Wrong. Magical Friends are discarded before Alice's effect, Same the King.

Kairi's effect is only useful against 1 deck archetype, Dark. otherwise, it's a bad Jiminy. Doesn't really sound as good as mickey to me which can be searched off D. Isles and get any card I want. Even if I don't have the king I could get something like the Mayor and least bridge levels and get board advantage and have Simba fodder. Don't neglect this.

Alice is bad as well, It gets removed by Tidus and you are at a card disadvantage. You play Alice, then you discard a friend. They go and play Tidus, use its effect to nab Alice and that's 2 cards to their 1 or 3 to 2 or 4 to 3. neither of which sound that good to me, even if the cards you discarded were fodder, you are still losing card/board advantage by keeping it in play, and if you use it then get rid of it, then you're just wasting a space in your deck which could have been taken by something actually useful. A search friend gains you board advantage, Alice makes you lose it.

Invisible+Phil=not as good as behemoth...Behemoth can't be so simply avoided whereas all one needs against Invisible+Phil is Pan and a friend. While useful at times it doesn't work as well as Behemoth or Parasite Cage.

Card_Breaker: Beast is not the best way to get rid of sneak, it's probably one of the worst. Dumbo is the best, it's effect gets rid of it then you can use it to make other threats less powerful then battle those heartless or challenge your opponent with it, either way, it's advantageous to you. Pan is the most consistent though, as there are so many ways to get pan and it doesn't die at the end of the turn, plus pan effects all the heartless on your world when you battle with it. Beast only nabs one heartless, so it better be worth it, Something like Behemoth is something I'd rather get rid of with Beast rather than just a silly little sneak. You can't effectively search for beast, it's needs Jack at low levels to get sneak off the world or you need a lvl 3 Beast which requires either a moogle or triton (SRU which is sort of implied that they don't have) at the least, or a lvl 1 and a lvl 2 friend. You might want to actually play the game before you make such a pretentious claim.

invisible can be hit with attack cards so even if you combo with phil it isnt a stealth sneak its just a little tougher to get rid of until you get your ultima or oblivion heck oathkeeper would do it

Oathkeeper only works with Sora (Halloween Town) or Riku lvl 3, other than that you need another card.

Ulitma is basically Bambi lvl 3 and Oblivion combined, other than you have to defeat dark cards to draw for UW.

Behemoth is by far a wrecking machine, even if your opponent casts magic they're friends are drawn into the battle because of it's effect.

Parasite Cage....need I say more?

Tornado Step is a card to consider .....he and Trickmaster will never be as good as Dragon Mal, but by far they are the closest non-SRU to be able to gain alot of power quick.

Ariel is underplayed as it gives a second option other than do nothing or use tink the next turn
