Item Names

By Jack of Tears, in Dark Heresy

It won't be long before my players reach a level where they will begin to occassionally find rare or unique weapons, armors, etc. Items with powerful names and notable histories. After ages GMing, however, one finds that they tend to fall into trends with the names they choose, so I was hoping I could get some suggestions for item names here, of a sort appropriate to 40k. (ex. Chainsword called "Flayer of Heretics")

Please state the type of item, it's name, and any further information (like thoughts on its appearance or notes on a possible history behind it)

It would be nice if we could get a hefty list that many people could use and take some inspiration from.

Ahh I love these sorts of topics, a chance to flex the imagination muscles and and see what comes out as a result. GuanYuStatue.JPG

1. The Emperor's Shade- The Moritat, a particularly infamous Death Cult renowned for their reverence in the Emperor and the holy bliss of blood spilt in his name. They achieve this with their unmatched sword skills and the countless blades they use to do at the distain of more modern fire arms. One such blade is known and feared within circles as the Emperor's Shade, a long handled sword standing 2 meters in length and tipped with Damascus-styled blade said to be a product of the rare Nox-Pattern of Metalurgy (I know, I can't spell...). In the hands of the Moritat Reaper Karsus hailing from the Feral world of Fedrid, to his fellow acoltyes (and indeed the heretics they hunted) he was known as the Emperor's Decapitator earning his name by his custom finishing his foes by beheading them. With his skill and massive strength, indeed he is one of the few people who could do so with a weapon such as his

^^

Correction, meant to say Fervious instead of Fedrid.

You can find many items in the Army Codex for each race. If thats too epic for your group switch the name around a tad.

My Noble born Cleric I play in the "Sin and Salvation" campaign has a sword called "Vanity's Edge". It's a rapier-style sword, primarily meant for duelling and it was of the best quality and had the mono upgrade. However, recently he and the rest of the acolytes got some extra funds to spend on equipment and weapons. My cleric putting great nostalgic value in his weapons and items didn't feel like just getting a new power sword or something like that, so instead he used his share of the funds (along with some out of his own, deep pockets) to reforge his sword into a lathe blade, and also having it sanctified.

It might not have the same high damage as power swords do or the same pen, BUT just imagine the surprised look on a power blade wielding foe when this noble born cleric blocks a swipe with a "primitive" looking sword and the blade actually stops the power blade without breaking! gran_risa.gif

A true nobleman's weapon, the "Vanity's Edge" is. And hopefully it will pierce the hearts of thousands of heretics, witches and other enemies of mankind.
