Frostmarch - New expansion for Talisman

Howl of the wendigo is a very dangerous card, if you lost your first battle in a fight....

I'm playing with a card, which is automatically killing the Character. And I died because of it two times. I don't afraid of Wendigo lengua.gif I think sooner or later we might see it due to 3rd Edition recycling. Now is a good occasion for it, unless that Frostmarch is only a preamble to the Mountains expansion.

Today I was playing two games Warlock (prox) vs. Dark Cultist. Both of them he won. First game he won in his first turn, even before Dark Cultist made her first move xD.demonio.gif

He had "Random" spell and something other. He cast it at (At the start of his turn, so he could be able to take new Spell at the start of his first ever turn, because it's still his start of the turn gui%C3%B1o.gif) Dark Cultist. She roll 1, so she reroll to 5 (using her first and last Fate). Then Warlock roll 1 for his movement, he encountered the space, then he roll 6 for Reaper. Reaper went to the Graveyard, and Cultist roll 1 for him. FLAWLESS VICTORY!

I had a game like that the other night.... :)

hi guys

would like to know if the new rules for the fate tokens are in this expansion.

Most possible, John in his 20 Questions said something like:

QUOTE: John Goodenough
"One of the upcoming expansions will take full advantage of the light and dark sides of the fate tokens by introducing new game rules."

Also, looking at Frostmarch Rules sheet, it's full of some kind of variants of the game.

I don't agree that you can immediately replenish your spells. It's not start of your turn if you've already cast a spell. What other think?

No, I'm with you. The "start of your turn" should only be until your character actually does something, like casting a spell.

But here comes the question: If I replenish the spell(s) (because of my ability) at the start of my turn, can I do another action which is ought to take place at the start of my turn (casting some spell)? Or can I cast two spells that states "at the start of character's turn" in a row? I would say no.

For me - yes. More, You should be able to cast as Spell being drawn at the start of this turn (by special ability), if it can be cast at the start of Your turn. I think, it that could not be possible, Rules actually could state that we are able to perform only one action at the start of our turn (replenish spells, cast spells, use items (like Rod of Ruin). All Spells after being cast are going to discard pile, but "start of the turn" step didn't end yet, so You should be able to perform next action, until You decide that Your "start of the turn" step is finally finished, and You are moving to "movement" step.

I have contacted Jon about it, and he says that drawing a spell at the start of your turn comes first and then you can cast a spell( random spell for example) if you have already a spell before the start of your turn.

So you may not cast a spell before you draw a spell at the start of your turn.

If you have spells that says that you can use it at the start of your turn, then the ability comes first and then the spell cards.

I hope that it has anwer your questions..

Interesting dynamic of "start of turn" abilities vs actions that come at the start of a turn. Almost like the 5 phases of a turn in Runebound... but more convoluted and less clear.

I think that the warlock will become one of my favorites...

He begins with 2 spells

At the start of his turn, he gains his full completement of spells according to his current craft

And whenever you complete a warlock quest card, you may choose to take a purchase card instead of a talisman for your reward gran_risa.gif

i am thinking right away about mules and water bottles that are more difficult to getgui%C3%B1o.gif

Sweet ! A tiny expansion box. That game is definitely one of the games that need the most more content. Lookin to it.

I see that they have use only 3 characters on the front art box and the leprechaun is missing. He is also missing as a art on the back of the box.

It's the same as the reaper..

I wonder how the art of the leprechaun is. I hope he has some good abilitiesgran_risa.gif

But i don't want to complain because i like the front box..

Leprechaun

The teleport ability is actually the best ability he have..

He has no battle skills nor spell gaining skills.( he only start with 2 spells)

I hope that the 4th revised leprechaun has some more interesting abilities.

I hope we see something sooncool.gif

yes, it is. I remember I was playing my Sorceress against him (my old friend from primary school). I won it, but only because I had Golden Statue. Leprechaun (in Polish Edition named as Kobold) was high in S, while I was good in C. He always was winning battles (without needing to roll a die), and I always was winning psychic combats. I won because I was stealing from him Golden Statue, he was losing a life. Then he was attacking me at CoC, and was getting Statue instead of 1 life. Yes, generally Leprechaun, might be strong character, especially, if they won't make it weaker like it was in 2nd ED (I mean in old Dungeon Rules he wasn't able to use this ability in Dungeon, now all movement effects are working regardless of the board).

I can imagine that if someone is good at rolling 6's and there is a fountain of strength etc on the board, then you are lucky.

or if you are in the middle region and rolling 6's then can you hit the temple..etc

It let's me think about the elf. The elf has also no battle nor spell skills and can warp through the woods. And i must say that he is good..even if he has no combat skills.

But do you think that the leprechaun needs a other special skill or is he good as he is.

I have never play with him because he don't exist in third edition...

Wow, is that art from the Polish edition?

So strange. This is the leprechaun I know and love:

Yes, all arts from Polish edition of Talisman 2nd Edition (named as Magia i Miecz - even now, while all other international editions are "Talisman: The Magical Quest Game", our is Talisman Magia i Miecz) were different, IMHO a lot better than original ones. And of course except of Characters, cards were B&W. Most (if not all) translated cards are at Sam's page: talisman.clift.org/sam/ --> Second Edition --> Expansions --> Polish 2nd Edition. Polish edition was much harder than English one (Maiden was giving only 1 Craft, not 2; Gypsy were able to take only unused spells, not every spell after being cast), unfortunatelly Sam didn't translated all cards properly (example of that Gypsy). Also we had additional expansion - The Cave. Examples of cards from Timescape. Tell me, which images are better?

Polish ones are better IMO. But maybe I think that, because I'm playing Polish edition since almost 15 years, and I cannot think about other edition than it. Later, we also had a copy of Magia i Miecz, named as Magiczny Miecz (even normal edition and Special edition), in which in order to win the game we were forced to gather two items, not one - Talisman - and also one of them was available in last (among 3 + "something as Inner Region" Regions) Region. An the Beast could have S and C equal of 16. If anyone interested, You may check also: www.talismanisland.com/worldtour.htm

About those timescape cards...

The color ones are better...( But if the skafander was in color, then he won from the combat enviro suit..

Wich one do you find better then? happy.gif

Of course Polish ones. Like I said, I'm playing black and white MiM since 15 years, so I love my arts by default, because of habit. But not only, while Talisman arts have "fairy" images, like from fairy tales (or drunken eventually after good drugs man), Polish are more realistic. Most of arts looks like from Grimm Brothers's books - instead of being scary, they're funny. You must have big bad luck to afraid one of those beings from the cards. In polish edition, You could afraid some of them.

Yeah, i must say that even they are black&white, they are more realistic( as you said), like they are coming from a book or something..

( to get on topic..)

I wonder if the Frostmarch expansion will contain some raider cards...
