What races are playable.

By Guest, in Rogue Trader

Kroot mercs are in the core. Same with Eldar corsairs, and Ork Freebootas. The illustration of a freeboota has a power hook for a hand, and a spiked peg leg.

Now that sounds quite nice happy.gif . (Especially the freeboota-part gui%C3%B1o.gif )

I also hope for some interesting new Xenos-species....or at least the appearence of some Xenos already introduced in DH - for Example a enoulian or slaught empire, the homeworld of the Simulacra, etc.pp......

What makes me think that the Tau are possible in this sector, is from the little tidbit in the description of the Kroot Rifle, that "someone" modified the rifle.

Still hoping for Eldar rules myself.

Well yes, the Tau modified the rifle back when they first discovered the Kroot and the Kroot swore fealty to them. All Kroot rifles are made with the Tau modifications in place to make it more powerful. The 1st Tau codex pointed that out.

Doesn't mean that there are Tau in-sector though.

Yes but Kroot Rifles fire Compressed Plasma Charges (or somthing very similer) which are worked down vertions of the plasma charges for pulse weaponry. Its beyond a Kroots ability to produce...so they would have to find some tau to reload

Well, yes, there are plenty of minor races out there, but did you notice how they were all sidekicks to a Rogue Trader, and all conforming to the "funny human" xenotype?

What?

Have you read the Kill Team novel or the Ravenor Omnibus? In the first, Lieutenant Kage and a few of the last chancers under his command are infiltrating a Tau mercenary camp and they visist a bar/pub there where most of the customers are minor alien species. Few of them qualified for the "funny human" xenotype at all (most exhibited very strange physiology). The same goes for the second, where they are infiltrating a secret Rogue Trader outpost built within a hollowed out asteroid, it was a place for Rogue Traders to do business outside Imperial scrutiny and it catered to many alien traders as well. Not here could any "funny human" xenotypes be found, because they simply looked too alien.

Then again we might just have read different books, but I must say that I was pleased with noticing that the authors had been a little more creative than going with the cheesy star trek approach, where an "alien" is simply a human with a funny looking forehead or green skincolour or something like that.

Star Trek alien is called "mutant" in Warhammer 40 000 :) Warhammer 40 000 aliens aren´t funny. They frakking serius. And even if they seem to be funny (orks), it´s only becouse of our readers/gamers insight.

Right you are, mate!

However, when I envision a mutant they tend to look very inhuman. I think of them in the manner of "runt" mutants (which are basically humans with horrible deformities, think Quasimodo or Ephialtes from 300) and twist hulks (which are the epitome of a perverted human form, where the only recognizable aspects are the fact that they have at least a head, two arms and two legs, not counting any additions).

As for the aliens, Orks are great that way because when we just read about them we can see the funny sides to them, but everybody know that having one charging towards you would be anything other than "funny". Just look at the intro for Dawn of War, there you can witness som sweet Ork vs Space Marine onslaught. gran_risa.gif

Or, given their brilliant ability to learn, they have been taught how to do it and have the tech on-board their warspheres to make them. That, or normal mercenary Kroot who don't work for the Tau often use normal rounds rather than the Tau rounds.

But yea, it's possible there are Tau there, but extremely unlikely. That's why they never took part in the main bit of the Eye of Terror campaign, they can't get there, and given that the expanse is on the other side of the EoT from Tau space.... it starts pushing the realms of believability, in my view anyway.

Of course, YMMV.

*Sighs and checks the Galactic Maps on the Lexicanum*

Alright, yeah the Tau don't have much chance of showing up in the Kronous Expanse. It's towards the galactic rim but in the wrong direction. However, that doesn't discount the idea of generation ships or cyrogenic "sleeper" ships that went adrift, freak accidents of the warp, or the possiblity of them being included in a campaign setting designed to take players more towards the direction of the Eastern Fringe (Segmentum Obscurous is a fairly big place.) Just my two cents.

Of course, all of those will be NPCs, but it's a start at least.

It's something and the image of a power hook sounds like a pretty cool image to me.

Does sounds very cool...

Power hook?

Sounds like a fine addition to the "Pirates of the Caribbean... In Space!" thread. gran_risa.gif

Heh I noticed that the main RT guy in Forsaken bounty wasn't emancipated and such like other void born. For those who have the book, are the homeworlds similar to the ones in DH? Are there any packages in the book like the IH?
