Is it just humans. Or do they have rules for Eldar, Tau, Orks, etc?
What races are playable.
Just humans for the main book. They have said they didn't feel they had the space for non humans. Also given the Imperium even Rogue Traders aren't free to have xenos crew members.
But in his interview with the D6 Generation, Ross said that players could expect to see Xenos PCs sometime in the next year.

He said you might do, maybe, from what I heard, but it's all a matter of interpretation.
Though you are correct. He later said in the DR Interview that they were gonna do them at some point.

Not so sure of that. In BFG Rogue TRades could have xenos ships as part of their fleet. Of course that was before GW amped up the GrimDark to absurd levels.
In "Ravenor" there are Rogue Trader crews which include Kroot, Nekulli, Elquon manhounds, blue skinned and mirror eyed xenos, monthropods, Forpasi, ff'eng, opal-shelled mollusc creatures...

Those radical Rogue Traders - they leave Imperial space and act like the law doesn't even apply anymore!
Wait a minute...
i'd love to RP an ork crew...especially the big mek
'Weres da grotz gon! Day needz to greaz da enginz! If der not 'er soon i'm gunna crump em!'
My favorate part of ork BFG is that there weapons have random strengh were they breakdown and/or are improved mid battle
I want to be the captain with the big red go faster button for all head full.

Just the Imperium for now but I look forward to exploring the Kronous Expanse for the Greater Good at some point in time.
Role Playing Tau in the Kronus expanse is almost imposible though isn't it.
Tau don't have warp technology instead they have Eather drives, so how are they supposed to be in Segmentum Obscurus when there empire is in the eastern fringe, especially concidering they don't even have the range (or firepower) of Imperial Ships.
Actually i'd love to RP a Tau ship and i know most of my group will want to too but there ships from BFG don't fill me with confidence
I couldn't help but feel that the gamut of aliens in Ravenor was rather lazy ... it was kind of like Abnett got bored and slapped a cantina down in the middle of the 40K-verse.
In any case, some of the standard races in 40K would be completely unsuitable for PC's in the Koronus Expanse - Tau because of distance, Orks because of temperament, Tyranids and Necrons for painfully obvious reasons ... Eldar I can see happening, provided that they're not portrayed as just being a bit snooty, and otherwise human.
I'd expect any xenos PC's in Rogue Trader to be more along the lines of minor races particular to the Halo Stars - races that got forced out of Calixis like the Enoulians for example
I always reckoned that Enoulians are so physically similar to Tau that they might as well be the same species. Tau have different lower legs and a different colour, but otherwise (going by the illustration in Disciples of the Dark Gods) they are just the same.

I felt the same thing, at first. I thought about it and how big the universe is and that, with humans being so powerful and having much to offer (i.e. exploit) that a nexus of trade and the like would be swarming with xenos. Just because 40K isn't like Star Wars (thanks goodness) with a chunk of "humans that look funny" aliens all over, doesn't mean that they aren't out there. I love that there are races scratching at the Imperium's backdoor and that some foolish and greedy Traders are letting them in!
Playing Eldar or Tau would be wonderful .

Might as well claim humans and eldar might as well be the same species.
And in case you didn't know, that's HERESY.

Well, yes, there are plenty of minor races out there, but did you notice how they were all sidekicks to a Rogue Trader, and all conforming to the "funny human" xenotype? My point here is that if we are to see Xenos PC's in Rogue Trader, I hope to far Terra that FFG will put the work in (As they usually do). Seeing big teddy-bear sidekicks frequenting the pages of 40K background would just be heartbreaking

Even though it stinks of Star Trek, you could have a Tau starship transported to Segmentum Obscurus through a wormhole. Or, a group of Tau captured by an Inquisitor who then escape and take command of their own ship. However, the latter option is filled with major issues.

Or, easier yet, use/create a different sector closer to Tau space, or even just relocate the Koronus Expanse (with or without changing the names) to suit the requirements of your campaign. The placement of the Koronus Expanse means we're unlikely to see any official Tau material in Rogue Trader, but fan material of suitable quality shouldn't be too hard to locate or produce.

I just hope someone makes homerules for Kroot mercs that I can use beacouse these are cool and fit on RT ships and they do fight for the imperium at times so could have been working when they got to calixus and searched for a new job.

Having some tau escape won´t be hard for me.....the inquisitor who will give my players the license (in exchange for a thyrrcat to his hunting preserve) likes when it gets dangerrous as long as he still is in control and could simply allow some prisoners to escape for the fun of the hunt and then one or two might escape properly allowing a PC tau, and maybe there could be a tau settlement in the courous expanse due to some warp accident some time ago.

Kroot mercs are in the core. Same with Eldar corsairs, and Ork Freebootas. The illustration of a freeboota has a power hook for a hand, and a spiked peg leg.

Of course, all of those will be NPCs, but it's a start at least.
What makes me think that the Tau are possible in this sector, is from the little tidbit in the description of the Kroot Rifle, that "someone" modified the rifle.
Still hoping for Eldar rules myself.
