Another Frakkin variant: Sympathizers

By radmod, in Battlestar Galactica

Like many I became confused with the rules regarding Sympathizers. That is, not the mechanics but simply the wording of 'Sympathizer.'* Now, of course, I understand that the Symp that becomes a Cylon is supposed to be a human sympathizing with the Cylons (thus the inability to fleet activate) and that the Symp, like Boomerin the show, that is a Human Symp is really a Cylon. So I was thinking what if you actually played it that way?

That is, reverse the blue/red mechanic. If in the red, you get a Human Sympathizer - a Cylon on the Human team. That person would go to the Res ship and would take Cylon actions that help the humans. If you are in the blue, then you get a Cylon Symp - a Human on the Cylon team. That person would remain on the ship and try to help out the Cylons. Of course, that person would be brigged all the time, but he/she could still take actions and use their abilities. I was also thinking what if you did away with the requirement that the Symp card HAD to be revealed if it were a Human sympathizing with the Cylons; treat it as an unrevealed Cylon. Of course, there would be one tiny problem: the Human Fleet location.

* Sympathizer: "a human or Cylon who wishes to side with the other team." and, if in the blue, "this player becomes a revealed Cylon player." Almost sounds like what I'm proposing.

I believe the expansion does this by use of a "cylon sympathiser". This means that they become a revealed Cylon player and get a Secret Agenda card which is Sympathetic to the humans.
