Elite interceptors

By Estarriol, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Not seen many squad lists floating about now that these guys have their autothrusters... Anyone been running them? How do they get on in the current meta? Any builds you want to share?

saw an interesting list that ran Jax and Soontir and a shuttle. Jax had autothrusters and stealth device. Same on Soontir. His shuttle was an omicron with weird stuff like anti-persuit lasers and mangler cannon (no engine upgrade). That list won a small store champs (8 ppl) so i was very impressed. not 100% sure what EPT's he ran perhaps PTL.

You can make do with 3 Squints but I've found that against most builds, you need a brawler, like a Firespray or a Shuttle.

Otherwise you have 3 fragile ships.

So, I've been flying:

#1

Krassis Trelix — Firespray-31 36
Heavy Laser Cannon 7
Rebel Captive 3

Royal Guard Pilot — TIE Interceptor 22
Push the Limit 3
Autothrusters 2

Royal Guard Pilot — TIE Interceptor 22
Push the Limit 3
Autothrusters 2

Quite brutal. Can swap Captive for RecSpec if you want Krassis to be more tanky, but you lose the control that Captive gives you.

And

#2

Soontir Fel — TIE Interceptor 27
Push the Limit 3
Autothrusters 2
Targeting Computer 2
Royal Guard TIE 0

Turr Phennir — TIE Interceptor 25
Lone Wolf 2
Autothrusters 2
Royal Guard TIE 0

Omicron Group Pilot — Lambda-Class Shuttle 21
Fire-Control System 2
Heavy Laser Cannon 7
Mara Jade 3
Rebel Captive 3

Hits like a ton of bricks, but that Shuttle dial is a problem, even though it doesn't have a shot all the time, the shuttle still does something because of Mara if you can keep it near your target. I also like to block with it.

^ oh and and if the Shuttle is ignored, well..

I ran a very similar build against my son last night.

He was running 2x Blue BWings w/Engine upgrades + 2x Z95 Talas + 2x Z95 Bandits.

My differences were:

Interceptors - I ran Soontir and Carnor Jax (26) with No Autothrusters on the Interceptors (I don't have the cards yet)

Shuttle - Advanced Sensors (3) instead of Fire Control and Mercenary Copilot (2) instead of Mara Jade

We played a 60 minute game and I was able to take out a Bwing and Z95 before time expired.

He took out the Shuttle with concentrated fire, but never touched the Interceptors.

With the Shuttle, I never really used the Advance Sensors or Rebel captive (actually forgot to call for the stress when he attacked...) and got in one shot with the Heavy Laser Cannon+Mercenary. He closed on the shuttle pretty fast, so I was shooting Primary weapon until he got behind me.

I am considering changing out the HLC to Autoblaster(5) or Ion Cannon(3) and adding Anti-Pursuit lasers (2)

There are tons of interceptors floating around these days. Soontir Fel is especially popular with PtL, autothrusters + stealth device (I think it will start to disappear once more people get one-shotted due to all blanks on their 4+ green dice :P )

Of course, Scum are also brand new, so a lot of players are trying out the cool new toys instead.

Here's some other ideas I've read about (but not played):

5 alphas w/autothrusters, or 4 + howlrunner w/swarm tactics

Fel, Jax & Turr all with autothrusters, some with Push the Limit or Veteran Instincts, and as many Stealth Devices (or hull/shield upgrades) as can fit.

2 Royal Guards with PtL, autothrusters and sometimes hull/shield upgrade. Plus a big ship or another elite interceptor/phantom.

2 Defenders with flechette or ion cannon plus soontir with as many upgrades as can fit.

1 elite interceptor plus Howlrunner and TIE mini-swarm might also be making a come back given the changes to the phantom rules...

Exactly, the hype about autothrusters turned out to be hype. They are a needed addition but haven't broken the game. Heavies with perfect turrets (falcons and decimators) are still hard to beat and showing up in significant numbers at tournaments - albeit at a lesser ratio due to S&V and the resurgance of b-wings. I enjoy a three squint list, but haven't found others doing the same at tournaments or a strong autothruster presence.

My present list is:

Soontir, PTL, RGT, AT, SU

Turr, VI, RGT, AT, SU

Tetran, SoT, RGT, AT, SU

It is a good mix of arc dodging fun that I enjoy flying, with some crit and turret insurance. I haven't flown this mix in a tournament yet, but ran a Soontir, Turr, Carnor list before autothrusters and usually finished middle of the pack due to the turret challenge and 60 minute rounds. Best I ever did was 5th. In those circumstances it's true that having one more tank-like ship to anchor the group would help. I'll report back on how this squint list does in a few weeks. :-)

I run a list i call 'electric eels' (slippery with a shock)

Soontir Fel - Royal Guard Title, Push the Limit, Autothrusters, Stealth Device

Turr Phennir - RGT, PTL, AT, SD

Tetran Cowel - RGT, PTL, AT SD

Basically you're using that 'hard to hit' factor to get behind the lines then staying out of arc. Because at range 3 you're rolling 5 evade dice (unless its against say cannons) you can usually slip behind the enemy line/arcs without taking a scratch.

I play with 'evade' being an auto action every turn unless im sure the enemy have no shot (and with such high aaverage PS you generally get to know this). Usually im 'PTLing' for focus and evade but sometimes boost and evade to get in arc.

Fel give you a free focus when stressed so you can focus, boost & evade

Turr lets you get out of arc after your shot (important to remember to keep him in a state where he *can* do this, ie not already PTL'd or boosted before if you plan to do this.

Tetran is there as the guy who can help in the end game if you can keep him alive to stay on the tail of stragglers with his variable K turn, again its not massively compatible with PTL and Stay or Target might be a better choice.

I think from memory this list is 99 points with all the above so you could swap out PTL for SOT on tetran and make 100

Here's a similar list that I plan on trying out when my Imperial Aces shows up;

Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Stealth Device (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Royal Guard TIE (0)
Turr Phennir (25)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Stealth Device (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Royal Guard TIE (0)
Carnor Jax (26)
Push the Limit (3)
Stealth Device (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Royal Guard TIE (0)
Total: 100
Gives you 2 PS9s so the enemy doesn't have just 1 to pick/plan against. Jax prevents the use of focus or evade tokens.

Its definitely fun. But don't think there aren't stuff out there that 'hard counters' this type of list. Darth Vader (crew) eats this list fairly quick, and 4 attack + gunner laughs at your stealth devices (ex. phantoms, IG88B, HLC scum Kath, etc). Also mines/bombs can be problematic, so you have to fly even more carefully than usual if your opponent packs any of those.

This is a fun list, but it is unforgiving. I've tried it at several tournaments but my last one has led me back to squeezing in extra hull or shields rather than stealth. Basically I had a really cold dice day and got one shotted early in almost every game. Finished second to last and decided that I just couldn't trust the dice as much as I was. Stealth is great, but when hit you lose it and a hull, potentially with a crit since they cancel last, so it makes that first boom really hurt.

The last Tourney I was in I ran the following and typically didn't have any issues with Mines/Bombs or Darth Vader. Placed 4th out of 22. Biggest issue I had was with a stress shuttle w/ Fel & Turr as well.

Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Turr Phennir (25)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Autothrusters (2)
"Whisper" (32)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Total: 99
I havent faced IG88s yet but have seen Fel basically solo one before. And the Kath I've faced died quickly once the supporting ship where gone.

Yeah I won a tourney with this same list, except I put Intel Agent on Whisper 'just in case'. That was pre-FAQ however, so not sure if its just as potent now as it was earlier. Intel Agent I think is even better post-FAQ, because against other PS9 ships, you really want to shoot first with Whisper since its less likely she'll arc-dodge, and knowing where they are going will really help keep them in arc (also, Turr wants to shoot first too!).

This was pre-FAQ too (still have a week till its official! lol) and I had IA on there too however I rarely if ever faced anyone where it was of use.

I played a wierd 200 point game the other day against all four IG88 (some with autoblasters).

I was playing (and this is why it was wierd) along side a 100 point rebel list (E B A) with my interceptor list.

The rebel side lasted about two turns but my interceptors rinsed two of the IG88s withouth taking a hit.

We had to call time on the game but Phennir and tetran were unscratched , fel was on one hitpoint.

On the flip side one of the surviing IG88s had a single hull point and shield left (recovered from killing the A wing), the other one was down to about half hits. I have no doubt that if we'd have played on i'd have won with at least two of my ships intact... it just takes a long time as i needed to really outmanovre the agressors or stay at range

What smashed fell up? Being blocks then hit with autoblasters at close range.. silly mistake on my part.
