Our group recently played Level 25 "The Arena" and a question came up about LoS. Since the archer platforms are "far overhead" can the heroes still block LOS for each other (e.g. -can a heavily armored fighter position himself between a monster and a lightly armored mage and take the incoming attack), or does the added altitude allow the monsters a clear shot? Our group was evenly divided on this issue.

I believe that has no effect on LOS. Perhaps it's unrealistic, but hey, it's Descent.

The altitude grants +2 range (I think, maybe only +1), but it does not alter the rules about LoS. If the tank is blocking the line between the archer and the mage, the archer cannot shoot the mage.
If you want to make house rules to make the game "logical" that's your business. You'll have to make a lot of them.
