3rd Annual GenCon Wednesday Night Draft

By Maester_LUke, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

In cooperation with AGOT Designer Nathan French, I'd like tocordially invite the entire community of players (though in actuality, a primary emphasis on those reading these boards, and even more specifically those attending GenCon '09) to an impromptu, at least in geologic time, draft on the Wednesday night of GenCon.

Time: Meet in the "back" lobby of the Omni Hotel @ 8:45. There is an FFG employee kickoff meeting that will be concluding at approximately that hour. Since one of our sponsors, the game's creators, and likely several competitors will be tied up in this meeting, it serves as a casual gathering point from which to depart.

Place : Our scouts will be locating a suitable gaming location and we will adjourn there. 2 years ago, this was in the Hyatt, and last year we were in the Omni's Basement. If you're unsure if you can be there in a timely fashion, PM me your contact information, and we will call/text you our destination .

Format: ITE Block (2x ITE, 1x Thorns, 1x Talons) + an original Draft Pack* + 3 Crossroads** + 3 Minor Fiefdoms** + 4 "Grab Bag" plots***.

* All locations will be legal for play

** Please provide your own copies of these cards . If you have extra, show what a great community this is by bringing them, and sharing with those less fortunate, or the new players who might show up without them.

*** Each player will randomly select four plots from our Bin o' Doom and add them to their card pool. We will be playing a 7 card plot deck, in honor of 2006 Joust World Champion, Matt Ley.

Questions : Post them in this thread. This is a 1st draft posted after midnight 5 days before, so there will surely be updates. Stay tuned.

RSVP: Not necessary, but if you're interested, or know someone who might be, please sign on, much like the GenCon Roll Call thread, so we can estimate turnout in advance... And please bring your neutral influence providers, if you can.

Thanks in advance to all those interested, supportive and/or playing.

i'm in. i don't own any minor fiefdoms, though

and did you mean four card plot decks instead of seven?

I will be bringing what excess locations I have, and I'm hoping we'll see a good showing by others in the community to help out. I'd even be willing to let people proxy using the white-bordered "Seas" from the Core Set, since black borders will be draftable... assuming those playing can keep them straight.

Actually, the Draft Pack comes with 6 house Cards, 8 Neutral Limited Locations (two 2-cost,+2 Gold; three 2-cost, -2 reducers; & three 0-cost, -1 reducers), and 5 plots: Counting Coppers, Filthy Accusations, Wildfire Assault, Taxation & Alliance.

Players can choose to play one house to 15 power, or two house cards to 20 power, allowing "House only" cards for either. For players not familiar with drafting, keep in mind that this is slightly different from both the Treaty Agenda (you are both houses for the purpose of matching, and House Only considerations) and the old Alliance House Cards. Playing two houses are the equivalent to having an agenda though, for the purpose of card interactions.

I'm in as well as ayeblackbart. I just finished organizing my legacy cards and found I have a few extra minor fiefdoms, I'll bring those to share. Looking forward to it.

I think Greg and Kevin are in. I believe I am as well, provided I can find an entire draft pack to use. Justin is rather tentative as he wants to test his joust deck more. I'm not sure about the other two guys from our meta. Husemann said he's interested in draft, but also said he needs to test. And I haven't spoken to Zeiler in a few weeks, so who knows.

I think all we have to provide are 3 crossroads and 3 minor fiefdoms everything else is provided as part of the draft correct?

Correct. You will receive the Boosters, Draft Pack & 4 Bonus plots. FFG no longer has Draft Pack Supplements in stock, and as the "old skoolas" remember, the Draft Packs debuted right before Valyrian Ed. and the appearance of influence. So players needed to supply their own supplemental influence sources when drafting. That will be the case in 3 days as well. :)

I'd very much like to participate, pending I am able to find the place and a ride there (depending on how far away it is from where we are staying). My only questions so far, and this goes for everyone who might know, is what the events cost. The melee and joust tournaments, and this draft as well. This is my first Gencon trip so I don't know much about the events except what times they are. Thanks for any info.

Huseman,

This wednesday night draft tournament is graciously sponsored by Nate and Luke. It will not cost you anything. It is Wednesday night and thus not part of the convention. Make sure you have my cell phone or Will's before you leave so we can get ahold of you Wednesday night. Just about everything in downtown Indy is walking distance, we can make sure we meet up with you to help out with anything.

As for the "official" gencon tourney's, you will pay for those when you sign up for the events. There are two main lines you will have to wait through on Thursday morning. One is to get your convention badge, then you will have to get in a second line to get your event tickets. I'm not sure how much each event costs, but it can be found on the Gencon website.

I do have Will's number, so I will be able to get ahold of you guys. Do you know what time the center opens so I know what time I should line up? I've heard that the lines have gotten better over the years, but I still don't want to wait in line for god knows how long.
