question about AT guns and AT squads

By woernchen, in Tide of Iron

Hi

Counts an AT GUN as a vehicle and thus gains an AT squad the Amor-Piercing Weaponry bonus, or not?
In the reference sheet it is just mentioned as Equipment but on the other hand it has also a vehicle icon.

Hope you can help me.

The AT specialization gives the squad a ranged tank weapon.

The AT gun can't fire by itself and is used by a squad (fatigues the squad).

Then again the rules clearly say in all attacks against a vehicle, the squad has a base range of 3 and +3 firepower against tanks.

My understanding of that would mean that if you are willing to use 3 range, the AT gun would fire at 12 vs vehicles on a concentrated attack.

Or you can use the standard range of the AT gun (7) at 9 damage.

Oops slightly misread your post. My previous post would answer the question, what if a squad with the AT specialization used an AT gun to attack a vehicle.

Does using an AT gun give the suad the AT specialization? No. They're loading shells into the gun and using it to fire.

Unless of course the scenario in question has a AT specialization lying around in the square of an AT gun that the first squad that enters gets to pickup...

I can imagine it now, "Men shoot that AT gun and pick up those Bazookas!" "YES SIR!"

Ops sorry if i misformulated the question...

so my question is:

if i have a squad with AT specialization and it is shooting at an AT gun does it gain the bonus vs vehicles?

Yes, the AT gun is a vehicle. Therefore a squad with the AT specialization would get it's bonus vs. vehicles applied to attacks against an AT gun.

Depending on your side, the AT gun is 7 range, 9 damage or 9 range at 13 damage.

If you're shooting at range 6, you can either hit on 5/6 with 9 dice or hit 6 with 12 dice. The first option would expect 3 hits ( [2/6] * 9) and the second would expect 2 hits ( [1/6] *12).

The other case would be 5/6 with 13 damage OR 6 with 16 Damage. Here there is no question, 13 dice at 5/6 is clearly the better option.

This leaves you with either four and a third hits ({2/6] * 13)= 4.33) OR ([1/6] *16= 2.66) two and two thirds hits.

Then again all bets are off if you can roll like a wild man at vegas.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with this comment as it relates to the question, can you clarify?

Okay thanks a lot, so I will handle them as vehicles.

I just was not sure, since on the sheets was only meantioned the trait "equipment" for the AT gun. All other vehicles (tank, truck etc.) have the trait "vehicles".

From the rulebook to Days of the Fox, AT-guns look to be a special category 'equipment' that take damage like a vehicle.

From the FAQ 1.5 file, it is stated that in an answer about placement that "Anti-tank guns are vehicles".

Therefore, AT-guns are treated as vehicles, but subcategorized as equipment, which gives them additional characteristics and restrictions.

Looking at the datasheet it displays a vehicle icon. So it is definatly a vehicle. This lets AT-squads use their 3 range +3 firepower ability against them.

Using an AT gun does not fatigue the squad directing the gun. Though the squad must be Non-fatigued.

The gun fires using its own range and strength, thus it can neither use any Flamethrower or AT abilities the directing squad posseses.

Okay, thanks a lot for all your help. :-)
