Which Asylum Packs are LCG?

By Reaper Steve, in CoC General Discussion

Hi,

I'm new to the game, and new to the forums. I'm trying to figure out which asylum packs are for the LCG and which are for the old CCG format. The back of the rule book shows 'The Mountains of Madness,' 'Ancient Horrors,' 'Conspiracies of Chaos,' and 'Dunwich Denizens,' as well as the six Summons of the Deep packs. The first four listed have me comfused as the first two use box art comparable to the core set, and these two packs are available in the store. But the third and fourth packs listed above aren't in the store and use the old CCG styling... but they clearly state Ayslum Pack III and IV.

Help?

Best I can guess, if my goal is to start with the LCG core box and collect every asylum pack after it, I should get 'At the Mountains of Madness,' 'Ancient Horrors,' the six 'Summons' packs, as well as the upcoming 'Dreamlands' and subsequent. Is that right?

Also, is one of each pack enough, or is there good reason to get two or more of each?

Thanks for helping me get started!

Mountains of Madness and Ancient Horrors are standalone LCG packs -- the former is 95% crap and the latter is around 80% crap, but they are LCG legal and you do want Ancient Horrors if you play Hastur (for Aspiring Artist).

All of the Summons of the Deep cycle is also LCG (and generally very good cards).

Other than that, nothing other than the Core Set is LCG, although the Dreamlands LCG cycle is starting up soon.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks, it does!

Is one pack of each enough?

Depends on what you consider enough. Each pack has 20 unique cards - 10 of which you get three of, 10 of which you get one of. It's likely that, sooner or later, you'll find a "one of" card you want 2-3 of.

One competition allows only one core set. The other allows three of any LCG. Fot that, the real, modern cthulhu title, you'd better have the option to have three, besides two and one, of many given cards to compete. That's right, three core sets to compete.

Amante and Johnny, thanks!

I doubt I'll be vying for the world title anytime soon, so one core set should do me for now. As I get the asylum packs, I'll keep in mind that I might need to get up to three (yikes.)

Alright... time to take the Nestea plunge!
