What to expect at Worlds

By Shaneth, in UFS General Discussion

This is probably the last post I'm gonna make until after Worlds.

You can expect at Worlds:

1) Boy Band Delux is reunited with Paul "P Bizzle" Bittner and Scott "Gawdfadda" Gaines.
2) Chubbs getting naked.
3) Ted Bundy.
4) Shaneth singing to his opponents. UM-BRELLA---ELLA---ELLA!!!
5) Jonathan Ledezma making his surprise UFS return in singles. <- wasn't supposed to tell anybody gui%C3%B1o.gif
6) Steve getting upset because Mill wins Worlds...
7) ...but Hata doesn't care that it did.
8) Promo Rikuo in top 16.
9) Seth Morrigan/John Macek/Antigoth - team up for the 3rd time in a row.
10) Sexy parties.

You can continue the list.

PS. Everybody, please dig up your Lollipops and Beautiful Purple Flames . Chubbs is about 37 Lollipops away from backing a deck in them and I am about 34 Beautiful Purple Flames away from backing a deck. Chubbs will give out lap dances, just for your Lollipops and Beautiful Purple Flames. If you don't want a lap dance (dunno why you wouldn't) then I guess we got other stuff too. Seriously tho, we need these cards, yo!

Small corrections:

5) Jonathan Ledezma shows up for a surprise concert with his new band Agent Jane

7) Two weeks later, Hata still doesn't believe that it's possible for a mill deck to win. [/joke]

9) King's games steals Macek from team Death by Misadventure to make up for FFG Stealing Hata.

Adding to the list:

11) Team Death by Misadventure unveils its surprise 3rd member and ringer... a multiple regional winner.

12) Antigoth listens to much Dethklok and frequently holds back the urge during matches to throw up the horns, and experiences much metal.

(Crap... now I have to use the Horns in whatever legacy deck I run)

Oh... and speaking of cards to collect:

I collect Trolling... one day I will probably back a deck with it.

We own our very own Macek now. I think we might have to change the name of the team.

First we were team "NICE HEAD!!!"

Then we were team "YOUR BABYS HEAD LOOKS SOFT CAN I TOUCH IT"

Now we gotta think up something for the trinity.

I will send 9 Beautiful Purple Flames to Worlds with the UK lots most likey Ross if i remember to get his address to send them to him lol for you but on your mission you have to try and get signed eye patches i have nearly 300 signed eye patches.

I expect to top 8 and promptly lose to Bittner.

Bad players should'nt expect to make top 8 at major tournaments gui%C3%B1o.gif .

But on another not could people please bring any foil bunches of bannas that they dont care about i am also trying to back my deck with them and need 25 or so more.

...Dude Ted Bundy's going? ****, is Ed Gein too?

Also, Rihanna? Honestly, I would expect you to be singing THIS song:

So I'll see you in top 8 then, eh mate?

After Worlds, the amount of in-jokes will saturate the boards so much that even fewer people will feel welcome.

then we'll counter with in-jokes too.

There is no way that joke would ever fly on this forum.

Not exactly, to see me in the top 8 we would both have to be good players wich you are not, and i would have to be extremely lucky to make it through diversity. Therefore it would be extremely unlikely to meet in the top 8 seeing as how unlikely it would be for either of us to make it there.

Oh look.

A flame war in the making.

Meh, with this type of meta anyone can be making top cuts.

I sure can't

Unless I develop telekinesis and/or play by proxy

I'm not going to rise to the obvious ego bait.

I think this is a good thing, a wide-open meta challenges the good players to innovate vs. the past where established techniques were 'sure' (or highly likely) to suceed.

Separates the men from the boys, what balance in a competitive game is all about.

From this side of the fence (meaning the "not going" fence), it's not looking extremely balanced. Same as it always was, only the symbols were shuffled around a bit.

The problem is that you are on a side of the fence , if you travelled back and forth across it you would realize there is a multitude of strong techs that can and will win games at worlds...

5+ symbols as competitively viable vs 3+ is a more balanced game.

(also it makes you feel better when you can't compete to undermine the state of play you can't partake in, i.e. there may be some bias... it really is a much fresher standard meta than it was a month ago)

First to Shane and crew, I too look forward to reuniting the band. Glad you guys are able to come. It would have been very different worlds experience without you guys. Also as a member of the band I'll have to think up something to sing during our match if we should happen to get paired against each other.

Second to Archimedes, It will be good to see you again at an event. However, I wouldn't worry too much about playing me top cuts as I've never made a single worlds top cut yet. Also, if you do make top cuts you better take it seriously and try to win regardless of match up this year.

Now for my "What to expect at Worlds" list:
1) As always, great times to be had both in the convention and outside it.
2) Expensive beer and days of eating out.
3) Lack of sleep, but worth it.
4) New team champions. (Though I hope I'm wrong about this =)
5) Jeremy Ray getting a little something extra in his cup again.
6) Tanner finding a way to best me somehow someway.
7) Goo having something new that both shocks and amazes me - making me rethink how I play the game.
8) Antigoth getting at least 2 people with his "all your base" deck in teams.
9) Scott Gaines calling someone while alone.
10) Jon Herr comes back after not playing since US Nationals and still top cuts.
11) Discussing with the Brits (over pints) the dynamics of US aggro and English control as it relates to our respective cultural histories.
12) Omar Chavez, Omar Chavezing.
13) Canadians.

"What not to expect at Worlds" List:
1) 100+ Card Paul Bittner deck. (Limiting myself to 99 cards max this year)
2) Chubbs keeping his clothes on. (As mentioned above)
3) James Hata winning anything.
4) A sober Ben Shoemaker.

Personal Wish list:
1) UFS House, Second team asset won in a year. (Just like Michigan did last year)
2) Finishing in top cuts this year (Singles).
3) Matt Kohls 2 dot since his card is rotating.
4) More Canadian Ketchup - I can't get enough.

To everyone I've met in the past, I look forward to seeing you all again. To everyone I've yet to meet or hang out with I hope we can do so this year. Can't wait.

Last, if any of you play Call of Cthulhu LCG bring your cards. I'll be playing that on the side as well.

As far as I've seen on the boards, it's still a one-hit wonder meta (if even due to the resurgence of decking). You just have to deal with something else (hence the symbols being shuffled around part) than before the bans.

5+ symbols being viable as opposed to 3+ doesn't matter when they all win in the same way - winning the gray war and pumping a huge attack.

Paul, you can just sing love lockdown.

Ted Bundy played "I'm Too Sexy" on the way back from Ohio.

Ted: "Paul should so sing this song. He has the voice for it."

Pasta B and Scott Gaines have the Usher song COMPLETE hands-down.

Pasta B: "She was all up on me screemin---"
Scott G: "YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!!! YEAH!!! YEAH! YEAH!!!"

At least you know Tapout is gonna give you a hard time in a couple of days. We don't wanna hear any whining, Brett. You're not getting away. You better take it and like it!!! JUST LIKE LAST YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I look forward to it.

It's not like you guys have any original material left as it is.
