Hey, newbie to the game,

The Strategy cards..... do you have to buy them in the command phase and use them in the appropriate phase( command in command and action in action), or can you buy "action" cards in the action phase?

any help here would be great.

You get at least 1 card per turn in the first part of the status phase for free. If you draw a card with a red + at the bottom, you get to draw a second.

You must play the card in the appropriate phase... so if you just drew a command phase card you must wait until the end of the next turn to activate it.

Remember that it costs an action to play a card during the action phase. Once played, many of the cards also require an action to activate them.

See p.7 under 3. Claim Game Cards for game starting cards, and p.16 under 1. Draw Strategy Cards for status phase cards.

See p.11 under Activate Strategy Card, noticing that it says "faceup Strategy card in his HQ area." And this refers to Action Phase cards.
