Seigfried Assault Scenario Question

Question regarding theSeigfried Assault Scenario. I perused the pages of threads but couldn't locate this one.

When the German reinforcements come into play on Turn 5, they must follow the same rules as the setup? That is, the squads involved in the reinforcements may be deployed on any level 1 or level 2 hill hex on maps 1B, 3B, 5B, 4B, and 12B while Vehicles may be played on any hex on maps 1B, 3B and 5B.

So, on turn 5, can the Germans just "pop up" on the map? Or do they have to come in on a map edge? It would seem kind of weird if they could just materialize out of nothing and appear on a hill.

thanks in advance!

Reinforcements come onto the map at the hexes marked with a big 'R'.

I have at least a 2nd edition of the game, but my scenario guide has 3 "R" 's on board 5B: the top right corner, and the following two squares on the top full row of hexes. I am going to guess that is where their reinforcements should appear.

I was reading a study of cars and visability recently. Any guess what is the least visable color? Small hint, it's one of the colors for squad bases for the Germans. As for appearing out of nowhere, the German army was quite good at doing just that. In Africa, Italy and Europe they had the terrain well scouted, and made excellent use of pre-ranging their guns. It may surprise you to know that American veterans say they had temendous difficulty finding German artillery. One soldier made a comment about how they had stopped looking for the guns themselves; Instead they looked for resupply teams or reinforcements moving to those positions. Bear in mind this is the 88mm gun we are talking about.

If you've ever played a more realistic version of a war simulator (operation flashpoint/ Armed assault), you'll know that in the middle of a firefight it is incredibly easy to be effectively pinned down and flanked by another squad. If you've ever played a WWII simulator, you might know that camouflaged tanks can snipe as a team as long as they don't move (you can hear a moving tank somtimes as far as 4 miles away). But if 4 tanks hidden in hills, bushes, etc take turns popping shots on enemy formations at 1km.... they can sit there for a very long time and rack up kills if they know what they are doing.

I must have a first edition, because my scenario doesn't have any "R" hexes on the map.

Thanks for the clarification.

Edition has nothing to do with it. Are you looking at the setup map on p.15 of the Scenario Guide? The nature of reinforcements is described on p.16 of the rulebook. If reinforcements are available, specific hexes are indicated with the letter R on the setup map of the scenario, as these zones change from scenario to scenario. Obviously, they are not on the map boards themselves.

If you look at one of the faq's there's a mention of the errors that were caught before the game manual went to the printer. All of my cards were correct, so I assumed I have a second edition. And while my rulebook notes the errors, I believe it is to eleviate any problems you might encounter with someone who had a first edition set.

I thought it might be worth noting that the R's on this map for the germans are not outlined or shaded like they are in the rest of the scenarios. At least my scenario guide has the proper locations for reinforcements listed.

I believe you'll find that they aren't outlined in Silence the Guns or At the Breaking Point, either! They don't get outlined. The outlined areas are setup areas, so sometimes reinforcements happen to be in the same area.

I was being lazy and didn't want to get out my set... again :P
