Nukes Question

By Bhob, in Battlestar Galactica

The Admiral was revealed as a Cylon. He passed the Admiral's card to the next in line of succession. He stated the 2 unused 'nukes' were assigned to the 'player' during setup, and therefore were not to be passed with the Admiral's card, and so he discarded them. It was my first game, and I'm unfamiliar with the rules; but with a quick scan of the rulebook, I found nothing supporting this decision. I said the Admiral's card text seemed quite clear: "You control the nuke tokens." He begrudgingly acquiesced, and returned the 'nuke' tokens into play.

So, are unused nukes passed with the Admiral's card? Or is it as my oponnent suggested, 'ownership' of the nukes is established at setup?

Yep, that's what I think too. But . . . although we ended up playing that way, it was not because we agreed that the nukes are attached to the Admiral's title. He did it with a little 'tude; casting me as being a bit pushy.

He read the card, owns the game, and has studied the rules. Yesterday was my first time playing. I've read the card and only have had time to scan the rules a couple of times. I figure there might be something in the rules that supersedes the card text. So far I've turned nothing up...

I searched for "nuke" in the pdf version of the rule book, nothing that applies was in there. The title card is the only place the mentions who owns the nukes, other than the rules saying to give them to the admiral at the start. I have never heard of anyone ever thinking the nukes go away if the title changes hands. Your friend was wrong.

He was out and out wrong - so they probably haven't actually read the rules as properly as they thought, unless they really had and were doing it deliberately. The 'tude is certainly unreasonable especially since it is such a big change in game resources for the humans. Nowhere does it assign the nukes to the player or even a character - always to 'The Admiral'.

p.3 of the rules "The Admiral starts the game with two nuke tokens" - Note: The Admiral, not the player of the original admiral or similar - the nukes are assigned to a position, not a player.

p.12 states the Admiral has two abilities - and the nukes are one of those two abilities listed, so it is clear that it is part of the Admiral skills.

THe Admiral is clearly defined in how it moves and is transferred on brigging and revelation....so yeah, the rules are pretty clear. Admiral position and its abilities move, nukes is one of the abilities.
