Deadly against other player characters

By Rogue30, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Lets say that Greatjon (controled by player 3) jumped into challenge (as defender) between player 1 and 2. Attacking player has more deadly characters, so the defending player must choose and kill a defending participating character. Assuming that this situation is possible, question is:

can he choose Greatjon?

For Deadly, yes. As you say, the definition of Deadly says that the defending player chooses and kills a defending, participating character to kill. It doesn't say anything about that character being controlled by the losing player (like, for example, military claim does). Greatjon meets those requirements and could be chosen as the target of Deadly.
