The new Artifact Cards just put up on today's news look pretty special to me. Looks like the game play is going to get deeper with a relatively easy way to customize the new heroes. This is the kind of expansion work I like in a game. Two thumbs up from me!
Artifact Cards Previewed
There is still much I'd like to know. The "character sheet" revelation is interesting. But how many of these new powers and cards are going to be in the field at once? Just how great a change to the base game is this going to make? Are these heroes and items going to detract from the armies themselves? All in all, still very interesting.
Yep - looks good !
I hope that the heroes will augment rather than supercede army units. perhap they are similar to creatures quite useful in their own right but a well organised defence will do for them (though lead to their capture rather than death?)
Here's a big question though, what happens if a hero gets fireballed, can they be targeted out of a unit by lore cards?
Finally have something to look forward too in the gloomy Bristish November...

My one (biggest) concern is the game becomes like Warhammer Fantasy Battle used to be [and to an extent still is], where units were reduced to something you used to transport your uber-characters with.
I would be surprised if the hero doesn't use up a council level which does leave you with difficult choices, its a lot harder to get from side of the board to another so it should be easy to negate a hero if clever and a hero will be looking to pick up treasure so if you don't protect it, it will force the hero into beneficial but ultimately less useful in the battle overall... lots more choices without (hopefully) being unbalanced...

I hear your Fear, but I don't think we need to worry about Battlelore becoming Warhammer Fantasy like. The heroes don't appear to start off too powerful. Even if they get really powerful, it wouldn't be a horrible thing if Battlelore was more Warhammer like. I bought into Battlelore because I was tired of Games Workshop Prices and I could get entire armies in a single box.

Yes thumbs up for the artifacts etc. And yes concerns that the characters don't become too powerful like Warhammer. But having to use a place on the council, an order to move them and having them looking for items on the board will reduce movement for other units which all in all gives a good dilema for players.
The character sheet sounds like the start of campaign ideas!
