I saw today on the 'Sale' splash page, that there is a collectable disk game based on Twilight Imperium. And it's on sale. I've never seen or heard of this before, and I don't see a forum dedicated to it. Anyone know wht the deal is?
Collectable Disk Game?
Can't edit in hyperlink
Wow, is it time for their yearly sale already?
Twilight Imperium: Armada was a disk game based in the Twilight Imperium universe. It's no longer in print. It was a collectible game. As FFG runs out of its remaining supplies, it's getting harder and harder to get a complete set. I have pretty **** close (and I have a lot of extra ships to get rid of too).
It's actually a very fun game. Kind of fiddly to move the disks around by flipping them, but cool nonetheless. Certainly worth the prices they're charging. Try to buy enough that you can have several fleets of different factions though; you probably won't find many people out there who still are playing this game, so you'll need to provide everything to play.
Thank you for the info. I'll probably pass. I'm a completest kind of collector. It would bug me if I couldn't easily get a whole set, and I hate having to chase out of print games.
You might be able to get the complete expansion, if they still have the "all encompassing" booster pack available for sale. Unfortunately, I think it's impossible to get the base set in the same way.
GOD this forum is slow.
Turns out I was mistaken about the base set. It looks like they have some for sale. So you can get complete sets for 40 bucks. That is an AMAZING deal considering the original cost of these things!!!
Be sure to check out Boardgamegeek for some writeups about the races, as well as some ideas for houserules.
Is this one of those you need 4 copies of a rare, type games?
No. Not in my opinion, anyway. In fact, I think the game is probably better if you only have a single copy of some of the better disks... forces you to diversify your ships more.
Sure, there are some disks that are better than others, but I think some disks have duplicates anyway. If you want a complete spoiler list of all disks, check out this site:
The full expansion set appears to be sold out. I'm slightly miffed. Ah well.
edit: does anyone know if the complete limited base set comes with the control panel/ console things I hear so much about?
Both the full sets were sold out with in a couple of days.
Look for them on your favorite board game sale site. I'm sure a lot of those guys picked a bunch up for resale.
Also keep an eye on the deal-a-day sites like POZY and Tanga I know this past year they've been selling a lot of the on-sale items that FFG had last year.
And then there is always BGG . I'm sure you'll see a bunch up for trade and sale there as well.
Hope this helps.
Did anyone else think how cool it would be to use this system to resolve each combat in there TI3 games?
That would be interesting to make the combat go to the disks. the only downside would be that it would make the games go even longer.
