Nightmare wave speculation - the most undeserving

By ldodt, in X-Wing

Plenty of talk about on these forums about the ships we would like to see in the next waves so lets hear what people think would be the most terrible collection of starwars ships to be included in the game all in one wave (2-4 ship wave, aces pack or epic ship), be it terrible ship designs, unbalanced game mechanics or just plain ship hate.

Lets peer into the star wars Pandora's box of ship design shame and see if we can make a FFG wave announcement that will keep x-wing players awake at night in terror.

1. Suncrusher - Is there a ship more ill suited to a game then this one? A near invincible fighter sized ship more powerful then the death star. Blows up solar systems.

2. N-1 Starfighter - If ships ran on controversy this one would take pole position. Its the fighter from that movie that killed the childhoods of many starwars nerds. Comes with Midi-chlorians upgrade card.

3. Yorik-et - Living space ships that create their own mini-black holes large enough to swallow up laser and missiles and enemy shields. Good luck to Alex having to balance this ship into X-wing.
4. G9 Rigger freighter - One of my clone wars peeves this ship always struck me as one that should have just been a background design not the sort of ship you give your main characters to fly about in. Just looks way too much like the star wars equivalent of a tug boat.

I'd love an N-1. My Mel's miniatures N-1 just came and it is GORGEOUS! It's all sleek and delicate and deadly, like a psychotic heavily-armed ballerina.

Well, were going to have issues I think, because I like and would actively want the n-1 and the g-9.

Sun crusher I agree with, but I also don't like the arc-170.

Of the ships I know well enough to actually name, my list of top 4 no-nos would be

Sun crusher

Arc-170

K-wing

And the top of the list, the TIE Experimental M1

I'd love to see an N-1. I think it's a badass ship that looks sweet.

I also would have no problem with the G9 Rigger Freighter. I thought it was an interesting design.

The #3 and the Suncrusher, yeah, they'd never work and they both look stupid.

Woah. The Arc-170 would be awesome.

K-wing is at the top of my hate list at the moment.

K-wing is at the top of my hate list at the moment.

It is an ugly ship.

K-wing is at the top of my hate list at the moment.

The other thread is the only reason I have ever heard of the k-wing. My dislike us purely aesthetic, not functional, though. It is just ugly.

Hey! I love the G-9. The way its guns are set up would make it a really funky, fun large ship.

It is also a ship that a designer could make a solid case for an asymmetric maneuver dial, which would make it unique and very distinctive to fly.

The Suncrusher is not more powerfull than the deathstar, it has a weapon akin to that red gooe from JJ Trek 1.

The star either goes supernova or collapses in on it's self.

The only place something like that would have in x-wing is an objective.

You may as well list the AT-ST

There is a TIE variant in X-Wing: Alliance that is just a kamikaze bomb. It took about 10% of a mon cal's shields per hit. So it could just one-shot anything by ramming.

Don't add that to x wing.

Y-wings are ugly. That thing is hideous.

Am I the only one who likes how the K-wing looks? Though I guess it looks like how my 8 year old self built Lego: gather all the "cool" pieces in a pile and build a ship that features ALL of them.

I love the K wing, even with all its odd design I think it would suit X wing. I'd also be ok with the N1 and the ARC 170 being added to the game.

Tie Interdictor. Lord of bolt on TIEs.

Totally. Thing was a really great design and I actively want to see it in XWMG. Also since it's got that HUGE shielded cargo bay, you could even give it some WHACK Ordinance. Or, even use it as a Hangar like Anakin did. We need a hangar mechanic. We're gonna' need one for the Gozanti and Ghost, might as well include the G-9 for Scum.

Ships I do not want to see in this game:

Warlock Cruiser

Peregrine Class fighter

Evolution Heavy cruiser

Vipers

Basically, any ship that's not from Star Wars.

Yeah, the N-1 I wouldn't mind seeing, but don't expect and honestly am not sure how well it would fit. It's a gorgeous ship, but "of another era".

The G9 Rigger would fit easily - I mean, we've already got the HWK-290, YT-1300, and YT-2400 all from the Clone Wars era. The heavier ships seemed to stick around. (Nevermind the mass-produced late-war fighters like the Y-Wings and Z-95s). A G9 Rigger in the 'Scum' faction wouldn't even be the slightest bit out of place. And I love the asymmetrical nature of it.

The 'Suncrusher' is the most heinous fan-****, though. Just a godawful idea, stupidly executed, it's the starship equivalent of a 'Mary Sue'. We should probably coin a term for that. 'Mary Starship'? I dunno, Suncrusher is definitely in that camp, though - along with the 'USS Defiant', 'White Star', etc. All the terrible powered-by-plot-device ships that are the sign of a lazy writer...

As to the other design...fortunately, there is no such thing as the Vong anymore. So...what were you saying?

along with the 'USS Defiant', 'White Star', etc. All the terrible powered-by-plot-device ships that are the sign of a lazy writer...

??????

The defiant was powerful, but not off the charts so, and suffered problems because of it, and it's origins made sense. The white star likewise made perfect sense on the context in which it was developed. Neither one fits in the type of thing you are talking about, much less reaching sun crusher levels of lame.

Lets bask in the ugly with pictures.

The tie variant with the advanced's wings, I don't know what it is, but it looks like it suffers more from a low polygon count more than anything. If it were sculpted to a decent level of detail I think it would look alright.

The others have been discussed already and I have given my opinion. Though I think it us worth repeating that the M1 may well be the most stupid looking space ship I have ever seen in any sci fi, ever.

The G9 grew on me, but whoever designed the B-Wing did most of the heavy lifting there. It's like someone at TCW asked "What would happen if a B-Wing got down and dirty with the Eagle 5???"

I like K-Wings and I will not apologize for it! Ideally, an official re-canonized design would tweak some of the ratios, but I think that it's a fundamentally cool-looking craft.

The N-1 looks nice, but so what. It's tainted. Go look at a picture of 23 year old Iosef Stalin and tell me he's not the suavest mofo you've ever laid eyestalks on.

The Suncrusher reminds me of eating fries in Amsterdam.

Hate is a sign of weakness.

;)

The Sun Crusher, man. The motherflippin' Sun Crusher. That book was so stupid it almost came round to being brilliant again. It almost had me when the guy who designed something named the SUN CRUSHER pulled the old "They're going to do WHAT with my invention? But I designed the Sun Crusher for peaceful purposes!! You can't let them!!!" routine. By the time we got to the Benny Hill battle scene between the Sun Crusher and the Star Destroyers surrounded by black holes I think I'd just thrown up my hands and surrendered.

Er... kind of spoilers for a quarter-century-old bloody awful book, I suppose?

Am I crazy that I sort of like that ARC-170? Big vulnerable weapons packs dangling off the wingtips taken aside?

Well, were going to have issues I think, because I like and would actively want the n-1 and the g-9.

I like this post simply because of the M1. That alone deserves liking.
