What's the most expensive list in the game?

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

By which I mean, in a 100 point fleet, what list costs the most actual money to collect?

C3P0 on an engine upgraded Dash would be a good start....

C3p0 on a Rebel Captive with an Autoblaster Turret and Engine Upgrade would be better

Five Rebel Operative HWKs with C3PO, Nien Numb, Intelligence Agent, Dash Rendar, Gunner; two with AutoBlaster Turret, Hull Upgrade

You'd need:

5 x HWK

Tantive IV

Falcon

YT-2400

Lambda

Slave I

Most Wanted

Imp Aces or Star Viper

Adding in one of the x-wing pilots from the transport (also with engine upgrade) should push it up there as well.

Here's my entry:

(Green Squadron Pilot + A/W Test Pilot + Chardaan Refit + VI + Intimidation) x5

3 Rebel Aces, 2 A-Wing expansions, 5 Falcons (or Firesprays), and 5 VT-49 Decimators. Clocks in at $470 retail.

Edited by Beardface

So I got one that is $474.25. It's a bit messy..

Awing Expansion - Arvel Crynyd

Rebel Aces -Chardaan Refit

-Awing Test Pilot

Yt-1300 Exp -Draw their fire

Starviper Exp -Autothrusters

HWK-290 Exp - Rebel Operative

Yt-2400 Exp -Dash Rendar

Y-Wing Exp - Gray Squadron

Most wanted -Bomb loadout

Transport -R2-D6

Z-95 Exp -Munitions Failsafe

Decimator Exp -Intimidation

Slave 1 Exp -Proxy Mines

-B-wing

Lambda Exp -Sensor Jammer

M3A Exp -Flechette Cannon

-E2 Title

Tantive -Han Solo

This is a bad thread. There is no way I want to know how much money I sunk into little plastic toy ships ;)

Best I have so far is three of these:

Rebel Operative (16)

Autoblaster Turret (2)

Targeting Coordinator (4)

Targeting Computer (2)

Total: 24

View in Yet Another Squad Builder

And one of these:

Rebel Operative (16)

Targeting Coordinator (4)

Experimental Interface (3)

Total: 23

View in Yet Another Squad Builder

That's 4x HWK, 4x CR90, 2x Imp. Aces, 2x Most Wanted, 1x YT-2400 for (15+90)*4 + (30+45)*2 + 30 = $600 MSRP.

Targeting Coordinator is a waste of points, though, as it requires a mechanic the HWK can't use.

Still, technically the winner thus far :)

It scares me to realize I can build this list.

If this game were designed by games workshop that list would be dominating the beta right now

So I got one that is $474.25. It's a bit messy..

Is it bad that I thought, "I might fly that for a laugh at my next club night," when I read that?

This is a bad thread. There is no way I want to know how much money I sunk into little plastic toy ships ;)

You have to look at it differently: The game came out 2012, so now its 2 and a half years old. Imagine you go to the cinema once every month, and pay like 20 € for the ticket, a snack and a drink. In the time since the game came out, you would have paid about 600 € - but do you only play one game per month ? So it really is a cheap hobby :D

(It's really funny how one can try to justify buying plastic toy ships :P )

Isnt 450 or even 600 the min for a 40 k army and with all that is bought for the 1 list there are so many other lists that can be made with other cards and combinations that can be made

I don't understand the question. Buying at least one of every single ship is not optional, so you effectively have one of everything for free.

Definitely, but most of us don't have 4 CR90s.

That's exactly why we need to tax the rich more, and give everybody free Star Wars toys.

There are FAR worse things to sink money into and with many of those you have nothing to show for it hours later. I look at my collection of miniatures, cards, and game books and cringe at how many thousands have been spent over the years. But then I realize I could sell a lot of it to get back some percentage of my initial cost back. Going further I just think of all the other things I could have spent that money on and hit just disappear.

This thread is certainly interesting when it comes to seeing how many $$ worth of product would be needed for a single squadron but it is mostly hypothetical. We buy many of these components anyway to give us variety so the true cost is split several ways. Furthermore some of these squadrons are just complete BS and only being put together to see how much you could spend building a single squadron although I don't think anyone would fly them if given a choice.

I think a better question is really "what is the most expensive COMPETITIVE list in the game?" Granted there is a lot of room to define competitive. I'd almost like to say to look at it as a title match meaning that if you lose your opponent gets EVERYTHING that went into making your squadron although in that case you'd see people running dirt cheap squadrons so maybe compensation would be the $$ value of your own squadron.

Hah, this made me feel worse.

I play on average once a month and don't bother going to the cinema because it's: 1)I haven't enjoyed a film in years and 2)it's too expensive and I wanted the money for X-Wing instead.

So this conversation about how expensive the game is got me thinking. How much have I payed to play this game, and how does it stack up on a per hour of entertainment basis?

So I calculated the total amount I have spent on the game $825

And then divided that by the number of hours I have played. 200. (this is a bit speculative)

And the result is that I pay a little over $4 per hour for x-wing entertainment. This will go down as I play more now than I did the first year. By comparison...the average movie is about 2 hours and you pay (including popcorn) about $20. So $10 per hour for a move, and so I am feeling a bit justified by my pure thriftiness.

P.S. This does not include the hours I spent tinkering in squad builders, and reading forums. If I include those I am up to around 1000 hours.

This is what I came up with, limited to upgrades that (theoretically) actually do something on each ship:

Rebel Operative (16) HWK-290 $15
Twin Laser Turret (6) K-Wing $20
Han Solo (2) Tantive IV $90

$125

Gold Squadron Pilot (18) Y-Wing $15

Autoblaster Turret (2) Most Wanted $40
Bomb Loadout (0)
R4-D6 (1) Rebel Transport $60
Proximity Mines (3) Slave I or Aggressor $30
Experimental Interface (3) YT-2400 $30

$175

Arvel Crynyd (23) A-wing $15
Chardaan Refit (-2) Rebel Aces $30
Intimidation (2) Decimator $40
Autothrusters (2) Star Viper $20
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

$105

Lieutenant Blount (17) Z-95 $15
Wired (1) The Force Awakens Core $40
XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1) TIE Adv. Prototype $15*
Engine Upgrade (4) Millenium Falcon $30
$100

Total: 99

$505

Yet again, I can still build this list.

That is why you fail!

Two of these:

(15+40+90+20+15) * 4 + (20) * 2 = $760.
